Shelter was produced by Thomas Bartlett and features eight original songs, including "Roman Holiday" and "IOU," along with Chaney's interpretations of Purcell's "O Solitude" and Frank Harford and Tex Ritter's "Long Time Gone," first recorded by the Everly Brothers. Thomas Bartlett and Nico Muhly perform music from their new album, Peter Pears: Balinese Ceremonial Music, at LSO St Luke’s, presented by the Barbican, in London tonight. As on the album, Bartlett and Muhly play pianos and keyboards, and Bartlett sings, joined by other musicians on strings and metallic pitched percussion.

Peter Pears: Balinese Ceremonial Music, released last month on Nonesuch Records, comprises nine songs written by the duo plus three gamelan transcriptions by ethnomusicologist Colin McPhee that inspired the songs. The Irish Times gives the album four stars, noting its “slow-burning beauty,” while France’s Télérama praises its “unique and addictive dreamlike quality.”

David Byrne rounds out his spring American Utopia North American tour this weekend, playing a sold-out show at Peabody Opera House in St. Louis tonight and concluding with a concert at Farmers Bureau Lawn Amphitheater in Indianapolis on Saturday. The Chicago Tribune, reviewing last weekend’s shows at Auditorium Theatre, calls the performance “a marvel of staging and motion … the evening proved a celebration of Byrne's music at its most rhythmic and transcendent.”

The tour heads next to the UK and Europe for the rest of this month and July, returning to the States to continue the tour into October.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
