This long Memorial Day weekend, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, whose new duets album, The Traveling Kind, was released last week on Nonesuch to critical acclaim, continue their North American tour with performances at Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas, Saturday, and at Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, on Memorial Day.

The Charleston City Paper, which calls the duo “Americana royalty,” interviewed Crowell in anticipation of their appearance at Spoleto Festival. "It's not produced music. It's performed music," Crowell says. "That's us singing and playing." You can read the full interview at charlestoncitypaper.com.

Harris and Crowell recently performed two songs from the album for Rolling Stone, which you can watch here. “This is what it sounds like when true equals draw out the best in each other,” says NPR of the album. "If only Hollywood sequels were this good," exclaims Mother Jones of this follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning duo debut album, Old Yellow Moon. Vanity Fair calls it "a beautiful collection of duets" from "one of the most storied collaborations in country music."

---

Sam Amidon can be heard on NPR member stations across the United States as his Mountain Stage performance airs this weekend. Tune in to hear songs from his latest album, Lily-O, released last year on Nonesuch Records.

---

Laurie Anderson joins pianist Nik Bärtsch and guitarist Aarset for “Song Conversation,” an annual event at the Ludwigsburg Festival in Germany, bringing the three musicians together, at Karlskaserne in Stuttgart tonight. This follows their sold-out set at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart last night. Anderson performs one of her solo works, All the Animals, at Brighton Festival in the United Kingdom on Sunday.

---

Devendra Banhart continues his tour of Spain with Andy Cabic (Vetiver), performing two shows in Spain this weekend: at Las Naves in Valencia Saturday and Teatro Lara in Madrid Sunday. They take the tour to Portugal next week for performances in Espinho and Lisbon.

---

Jeremy Denk joins cellist Steve Isserlis and friends—violinists Joshua Bell and Pamela Frank, violist Lawrence Power—for a program of Czech compositions at London’s Wigmore Hall on Saturday. The program includes Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major and Miniatures (Romantic Pieces), Janáček’s Pohádka, and Smetana’s Piano Trio in G Minor.

---

Rhiannon Giddens continues her North American tour with a set at Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que Music Festival in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday. The tour, featuring music from her recently released solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn, continues into June with performances at venues and festivals like Bonnaroo and Telluride Bluegrass before heading to Europe this summer. The Seattle Times calls her concert at Meany Hall earlier this week "magnificent."

Earlier this year, Giddens had the honor of performing at The Lincoln Awards: a Concert for Veterans and the Military Family, which recognizes outstanding achievement and excellence in providing opportunities and support to our nation’s veterans and military families. The celebratory event will air on PBS stations across the United States tonight.

---

Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana join forces for the last scheduled performance this year of their electric duo Mehliana, at Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on Sunday. The duo’s debut album, Mehliana: Taming the Dragon, was released last year. You can watch a newly released Mehliana live performance video here.

---

Robert Plant and his band, the Sensational Spaceshifters, kick off their North American tour with two performances in the Pacific Northwest this Memorial Day weekend: at Sasquatch Festival in Quincy, Washington, Sunday, and Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon, Monday. Plant’s most recent album, lullaby and… the Ceaseless Roar, was released on Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records last year.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
