Sam Amidon visits Kings Place in London for a headline set featuring music from his Nonesuch releases, Lily-O and Bright Sunny South, on Saturday as part of the Kings Place Festival. He then heads to Ireland, where he joins Nico Muhly, Anna Calvi, Robert Forster, Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), Justin Vivian Bond, and others at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on Sunday and Monday for the premiere of Blood and the Moon. The show is curated by Bartlett, a longtime collaborator of Amidon’s who co-produced Bright Sunny South, and Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Paul Muldoon.

The performances follow Amidon’s set at UK’s End of the Road festival last weekend and kick off a week-long tour of Ireland.

John Adams's On the Transmigration of Souls, is performed by the Nashville Symphony led by conductor Giancarlo Guerrero at Schermerhorn Symphony Hall in Nashville every day this weekend, following last night’s performance. On the program, On the Transmigration of Souls, which Adams wrote in honor of the heroes and in memory of the victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001, is paired with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, as the New York Symphony did for the premiere of the piece in 2002.

Laurie Anderson's new film, Heart of a Dog, receives its Canadian premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday. Following its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last weekend, Indiewire's Eric Kohn says the film is "alive with the lyrical insights of a veteran artist. Using her beloved pooch as a starting point for broader philosophical observations, Anderson delivers a unique window into her creative mind."

Heart of a Dog was screened at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this weekend and makes its US premiere at the New York Film Festival next month.

Tyondai Braxton performs a rare solo show at Oberlin College in Ohio tonight, and then again at Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday as part of the Time-Based Art Festival. Jeremy Denk joins the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for a performance on Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for the ensemble’s Opening Night concert at the Ordway Concert Hall in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Saturday night, followed by an encore performance Sunday afternoon. Also on the program are works by Milhaud, Ives, and Bartók. Denk returns to the Ordway with the SPCO next weekend to perform Bach.

Denk recently made his BBC Proms debut, performing a solo recital and joining the San Francisco Symphony for a concert at Royal Albert Hall, which the Independent called "strikingly lyrical."
