Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters bring the music of Plant’s latest album, lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar and much more to the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City tonight and the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston on Sunday.
Plant and the band played the Lockn’ Festival in Virginia last weekend, and Brooklyn Vegan gave the set a rave review, describing the music from the new album as “genuinely great” and calling Plant “a total star on stage.” Following another recent show, the Oakland Press praised their “freshening and enlivening” sound, incorporating “flavors from the Mississippi Delta to the west of Africa.”

Sam Amidon closes out his tour of Ireland with an eclectic range of shows all weekend long. He takes part in the Conakilty International Guitar Festival at De Barra’s in Conakilty, tonight, before joining the Crash Ensemble and Valgeir Sigurðsson at the Everyman Theatre in Cork on Saturday, as part of the Sounds from a Safe Harbour festival curated by The National’s Bryce Dessner. Amidon closes out the weekend curating a Tribute to Pete Seeger at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, on Sunday, joined by Beth Orton, Paul Noonan, Lisa O'Neill, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Lynched, Tommy Sands, Voice Squad, and Thomas Bartlett (Doveman).

The Canadian premiere of Laurie Anderson’s new film, Heart of a Dog, continues with an additional Toronto International Film Festival screening at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema on Sunday.The Los Angeles Times recently called Heart of a Dog “the kind of film you want to fall into and get lost in.” It makes its US premiere at the New York Film Festival next month.

Punch Brothers help kick off the three-day Fresh Grass Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, tonight, closing out the first-day’s festivities on Joe’s Field tonight. They then pick up their North American tour with special guest Gabriel Kahane, starting at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, Vermont, on Saturday, and a sold-out show at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, on Sunday. Making for a very busy Sunday, the band also plays a set at TURF: Toronto Urban Roots Fest, performing on the South Stage, earlier that afternoon.
