Here is our weekly list of just some of the many events going on across the globe this weekend featuring Nonesuch artists:

Steve Reich's music will be featured throughout the sophomore run of Detroit's 12-hour music marathon Strange New Music II, put on by the group New Music Detroit, this Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. The musical extravaganza's 1 PM hour showcases solo and duo music, including works by Steve Reich, Luciano Berio, Olivier Messiaen, and Nico Muhly, followed by a very different program by the Motor City Jazz Orchestra, performing of music by Frank Zappa, Herbie Hancock, and Steely Dan. The day's festivities are capped off with a grand finale performance, running from 10 PM to midnight, of Reich's Drumming and Terry Riley's In C. Info: newmusicdetroit.com.

On the same day, a few thousand miles away, the two-week Klangspuren 08 festival gets under way at the at the Tennishalle in Schwaz, Austria, with the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck, led by Johannes Kalitzke, performing the orchestral version of Reich's Tehillim, joined by Synergy Vocals, whom the composer has praised as "experienced, committed performers" of his music. The focus of this year's festival is on Israel and Palestine. Sunday afternoon, at 3 PM, also in the Tennishalle, Reich's Six Marimbas will be performed as part of the festival's "Next Step" series. Also on Saturday, Reich's City Life will be performed by NDR Radiophilharmonie, led by Nicholas Milton, at the Theater in Wolfsburg, Germany, paired on the program with Dvorák's "New World" Symphony. Info: www1.ndr.de.

John Adams's Son of Chamber Symphony, which was given its world premiere last November at Stanford University by Alarm Will Sound, led by Alan Pierson, receives its Scandinavian premiere tonight at Tapiola Hall in Espoo, Finland, with Maestro Olli Mustonen leading the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Laurie Anderson has brought her latest performance piece, Homeland, to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where the show will run for two nights, tonight and tomorrow, at the Sesc Pinheiros. She brings Homeland back home next week with a continuation of her US tour.

The Black Keys make two stops in Wisconsin this weekend: a sold-out show at the Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee tonight and a free show as part of the Southern Comfort Music Experience in Madison on Saturday, after which they'll get a few much-deserved days off before hitting the road again later in the month.

Bill Frisell is in the midst of a two-week run at the Village Vanguard with drummer Paul Motian and saxophonist Joe Lovano that got off to an unexpectedly different start on Tuesday when Lovano was called away for the night due to a family emergency. The New York Times's Ben Ratliff says the inclusion of Bill McHenry, who sat in for Lovano that night, showed how flexible the trio's players are. "[E]ach player has an equal share in the band," he writes. "Anyone can switch among melody, harmony, rhythm, color, texture." His review concludes: "one small band, one big idea." Youssou N'Dour: I Bring What I Love, a new film documenting the making of and reaction to Youssou N'Dour's seminal 2004 album, Egypt, makes its Toronto International Film Festival premiere this weekend. (Watch the trailer at youtube.com.) The first screening will be on Saturday at 3 PM with an encore presentation at 3 PM on Sunday. Nicholas Payton continues his weeklong run at the Jazz Standard in New York City with bass player Christian McBride and guitarist Mark Whitfield. The trio performs three sets each tonight and tomorrow night with two more sets on Sunday, before Payton heads down to Brazil next week. Info: jazzstandard.net.

Sam Phillips begins her two-week North American tour with two nights at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago this Saturday and Sunday. The tour will make its way through Michigan, Ontaio, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, upstate New York, and Maryland before making a final stop at New York City's Poisson Rouge on September 18. The Republican Party has cleared out of the Twin Cities and the Punch Brothers are moving in, performing tonight at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune writes that "the gifted, hyper Chris Thile is becoming to the mandolin what Béla Fleck is to the banjo—a virtuosic genre-blending adventurer" and says that the band as a whole "offers shades of classical, folk and bluegrass and lots of instrumental wizardry." It's one of many dates in the Midwest swing on their fall tour, which brought them to the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin, last night, takes them to Milwaukee's Pabst Theater on Saturday and then to The Redstone Room in Davenport, Iowa, on Sunday. The tour continues in Illinois next week before moving on to Texas.

The members of Wilco are taking some time to tour with their extra-Wilco efforts, like Glenn Kotche's performance with Kronos Quartet earlier this week at Ravinia. Jeff Tweedy concludes his brief solo tour of Spain with performances tonight and tomorrow night: first at the Palau Altea in the seaside town of Altea, halfway between Valencia and Murcia, where he'll play the next night at the Auditorio Murcia. John Stirratt and Pat Sansone are in the UK for a week's tour with their band Autumn Defense: tonight at The Cluny in Newcastle and Sunday night at the Clwb lfor Bach in Cardiff, Wales. And Nels Cline is in California this weekend to play a solo set Saturday night at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts's Open Gate Theatre, along with fellow guitarist Jeremy Drake.
