Pat Metheny Unity Group closes out a year-long, worldwide tour with a month-long North American tour featuring music from their debut album, Kin (←→). Metheny and the band kick off the final leg of the tour in Canada at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre in Ontario, followed by stops in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec; head to the States for shows in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland; make a quick trip to Mexico for the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival in Mexico; then return to the States for a culminating, week-long residency at the Blue Note in New York City.

Pat Metheny Unity Group closes out a year-long, worldwide tour with a month-long North American tour featuring music from their debut album, Kin (←→). Metheny and the band—Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, Metheny’s longtime collaborator Antonio Sanchez on drums, Ben Williams on bass, and multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi—kick off the final leg of the tour in Canada at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre in Ontario Tuesday night, followed by stops in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec; head to the States for shows in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland; make a quick trip to Mexico for the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival in Mexico; then return to the States for a culminating, week-long residency at the Blue Note in New York City. Pat Metheny recently spoke with the Ottawa Citizen's Peter Hum in advance of this week's concert there, about the band, the album, and taking it all on the road. Hum describes the new album as "a richly orchestrated program of lush, layered and painstakingly crafted music, cinematically coloured not just by Metheny’s multiple guitars and electronics, but also Carmassi’s stunning versatility." Kin (←→) recently topped the 79th Annual DownBeat Readers Poll as Jazz Album of the Year. The Pat Metheny Unity Group was also voted top Jazz Group, Metheny made the top of the Guitar category, and band member Chris Potter top of the Tenor Saxophone category.

    Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s honey from a winter stone is out January 17, 2025, on Nonesuch Records. The album, which Ambrose calls a “self-portrait,” features improvisational vocalist Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, Chiquitamagic on synthesizer, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos Quartet. Akinmusire says, “In many respects this entire work is inspired by and is an homage to the work of the composer Julius Eastman and his organic music concept."     Nonesuch Releases Special Edition of Wilco’s Grammy-Winning 'A Ghost Is Born' February 7 in Celebration of Album’s 20th Anniversary

    Nonesuch releases a deluxe edition of Wilco’s 2004 Grammy Award–winning album A Ghost Is Born on February 7, 2025. The box set comprises either nine vinyl LPs and four CDs or nine CDs—including the original album, alternates, outtakes, and demos, charting the making of A Ghost Is Born—plus the complete 2004 concert recording from Boston’s Wang Center and the band’s “fundamentals” workshop sessions. It includes sixty-five previously unreleased music tracks as well as a forty-eight-page hardcover book with previously unpublished photos and a new liner note by Grammy-winning writer Bob Mehr. An alternate version of “Handshake Drugs,” recorded during the studio sessions at New York’s Sear Sound, twenty-one years ago this month, is out now. There will also be a new vinyl pressing of the original album in a two-disc package, and a two-CD expanded version of the original album with bonus track highlights from the full deluxe edition repertoire. The two-CD version will also be available on streaming services worldwide.
