Back in September, Philip Selway, Nonesuch Records, and Indaba Music launched a search for collaborators to remix Selway's "Beyond Reason," off his debut solo album, Familial, release on Nonesuch earlier this year in North America. Remix artists responded in force, offering over 300 submissions, from which Selway has now chosen a Grand Prize Winner and two Runners-Up. Fans have weighed in as well, picking their favorites, with the 15 highest vote-getters on Indaba earning Honorable Mentions.
The Grand Prize winner receives $500 and a one-year free Platinum membership to Indaba Music. The two runners up receive free three-month Platinum memberships to Indaba. The 15 honorable mentions receive free three-month Pro memberships to Indaba. All of the winners receive autographed copies of Familial on vinyl, which includes the CD as well.
And so, without further ado, here is the Grand Prize-winning remix, by Alek.Fin, and the two Runners-Up—Andrea Riderelli's "Well Beyond Reason" remix and Japanese Robots' "Infinite Loop" mix:

Entertainment Weekly recently included Selway as a candidate for "most under-appreciated musician of 2010." EW's Simon Vozick-Levinson writes: "I don’t think Radiohead drummer Philip Selway‘s solo debut, Familial, got nearly enough love this summer. Selway’s hushed, eerie folk tunes were a revelation after years of hearing him keep the beat in his main gig." You can weigh in at ew.com.

Selway and his solo album were recently featured in Relix magazine, which describes the sound of Familial as "hushed guitars, uneasy arrangements, catchy melodies, songs that are both personal and somehow about modern angst."
"It’s my late-at-night bedtime album,” Selway tells Relix writer Jesse Jarnow. “There’s sort of a flat, underlying warmth to it, but when you start scratching away, there are scuffed-up elements, in the music and the lyrics.”
Referencing Selway's daytime gig as drummer for Radiohead, Jarnow says: "The songs sound, for lack of a better word, Radiohead-y. Which is to say that they sound like 21st century guitar pop, whose own changes over the past decade owe largely to Radiohead. The music’s own vague internationalism a result of its process and players."
