Portuguese singer Mariza has returned to the US to give a number of intimate concerts, going back to her roots to perform special acoustic sets of stripped-down traditional Fado as it would be heard in a small club in Lisbon. The tour includes a four-night, eight-show residency at SFJAZZ Center's Joe Henderson Lab, and concerts in Brooklyn, DC, New Jersey, Chicago, Boston, and New York. Songlines has named her Artist of the Year and called her album Mundo "an unalloyed triumph."

Portuguese singer Mariza has returned to the United States to give a number of intimate concerts, going back to her roots to perform special acoustic sets of stripped-down traditional Fado as it would be heard in a small club in Lisbon. The tour began at Bing Concert Hall in Stanford, California, last night and continues in the Bay Area with a four-night, eight-show residency at SFJAZZ Center's Joe Henderson Lab, tonight through Sunday. Mariza then brings the music east for concerts in Brooklyn, DC, and New Jersey, and at City Winery venues in Chicago, Boston, and New York. See below for all of the upcoming shows; for details, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Mariza's album Mundo earned her the Songlines Best Artist of the Year award following its international release in 2015, and was released in the United States on Nonesuch Records in 2016. The album features both new material and classics by Amália Rodrigues, Carlos Gardel, and more. "Mundo was an unalloyed triumph," says Songlines, "her artistry hitting dynamic new heights and her voice expressing every emotional nuance, whether singing a gentle and intimate lullaby for her young son or melodramatically letting rip on the high notes with the force of an operatic diva."

To pick up a copy of Mundo in the US, visit iTunes, Amazon, and the Nonesuch Store, where CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout, and listen on Spotify and Apple Music.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
