Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell will make their Austin City Limits duo debut, performing together for the first time on the ACL stage, this Saturday, November 2, on PBS stations across the United States. The duo's performance was recorded at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin this past June as part of a world tour supporting their new album, Old Yellow Moon. You can watch a preview of their performance—the album track "Invitation to the Blues"—as well as an ACL interview below.

Though both artists have appeared on Austin City Limits in the past, and in fact appeared on the same episode in 1983, this will be their first time on the show together. (And look for a special guest turn from none other than Shawn Colvin!)

"With multiple Grammys under each of their belts and the moniker of 'legend' attached to their names," says the show, "a musical partnership between Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell can be nothing but breathtaking. So it was when Harris and Crowell returned to the Austin City Limits stage to perform songs from their collaboration Old Yellow Moon."

Harris and Crowell will be featured again later in the ACL season for a special show on November 23 featuring the best music performances from this year’s Americana Music Association Honors and Awards ceremony, held last week at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, at which Harris and Crowell took home the awards for Duo of the Year and Album of the Year.

ACL airs weekly on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings for times), and full episodes are made available online at acltv.com immediately following the initial broadcast. For more information on the Austin City Limits fall 2013 broadcast schedule, go to acltv.com.

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell have brought their Old Yellow Moon tour back to the West Coast, performing two shows in California—Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa—this weekend, and then up into the Pacific Northwest and Canada; Richard Thompson is opening along the way. Congratulations to composer and pianist Timo Andres on receiving the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Elise L. Stoeger Prize—a $25,000 cash prize, awarded biennially by CMS to recognize significant contributions to the field of chamber music composition. Andres says: “I feel equally challenged and freed to take risks when I write chamber music, and writing it, I’ve learned the most about becoming a better composer and musician. To be recognized in this medium by one of its greatest institutional standard-bearers is a huge and unexpected honor.”

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
