AfroCubism, the long-awaited collaboration between Cuban and Malian musicians, is the subject of an article from Reuters, which spoke with the album's producer, Nick Gold. "Gold has brought the story full circle," says Reuters, "and gathered together the original invitees to make an album mixing the tight rhythms of Cuba with the snaky guitars and desert drums of Mali." Says Gold: "Maybe this huge wait that had taken 14 years. This music seemed to just pour out."
AfroCubism, the long-awaited collaboration between Cuban and Malian musicians meant to take place when the Buena Vista Social Club was born instead, is due out November 2 in North America and is available for pre-order in the Nonesuch Store. The album is the subject of a new article from Reuters.
In the article, writer Angus MacSwan explores the project nearly a decade and a half in the making, from the original plan to bring Malian musicians to record in Cuba in 1996, derailed due to a visa mishap, to the new sessions that resulted in the forthcoming album, featuring some of the greatest musicians from both countries.
MacSwan speaks with the album's producer, Nick Gold, head of World Circuit Records in London, and says of AfroCubism: "Gold has brought the story full circle and gathered together the original invitees to make an album mixing the tight rhythms of Cuba with the snaky guitars and desert drums of Mali."
As Gold himself explains of the resulting sessions: "Maybe this huge wait that had taken 14 years. This music seemed to just pour out."
