We enjoyed Rhiannon's concert at Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium on 4/14/18. I'll never know if you'll get this message or want to act on it. We were one third up the auditorium on the left side facing the stage. The drummer's foot pedal hitting the base drum drowned out all but the treble tones from all the other performers. There were quiet moments where that base drum was silent, and I really enjoyed hearing the music then. I understood that you have a mixing person that travels with you. Please consider quieting that base drum a little ( not the tom on the drummer's left, but the foot-peddled vertical base drum in front of him on his right). Yes you need to hit it hard and punctuate, but drowning out the virtuosity of the whole band, even the drummer's other drums, doesn't win for me. Thanks for listening. Great and energetic concert - wow! Big change from the Chocolate Drops in that little tent at MerleFest years ago.

Donnacha Dennehy’s Land of Winter is out now. The piece, performed by the composer's longtime collaborators Alarm Will Sound and conductor Alan Pierson, explores the subtleties of Ireland’s seasons via twelve connected sections representing the months of the year. "It is the varying quality of light that truly demarcates the seasons," Dennehy says, "from the shorter days of grey or piercing light in the winter to the warmer but mercurial light of summer days that at solstice stretch almost to midnight. I like this play between light and time, and it is the major inspiration behind the piece." You can watch a video for “July" here.
