Following his sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall with Kronos Quartet on Friday night, Glenn Kotche joined his Wilco bandmates for a sold-out show of their own at the Auditorium Theater in Rochester, New York. It was their first-ever performance in the city, leading Rochester Democrat and Chronicle to exclaim: "It was worth the wait ... as spectacular a show as we've seen this year."

Following his sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall with Kronos Quartet on Friday night, Glenn Kotche joined his Wilco bandmates for a sold-out show of their own at the Auditorium Theater in Rochester, New York. It was their first-ever performance in the city, leading Rochester Democrat and Chronicle music critic Jeff Spevak to exclaim: "It was worth the wait ... as spectacular a show as we've seen this year."

The band took advantage of a night off from its ongoing tour supporting Neil Young to play what turned into a set of more than hours, showcasing the range of its repertoire and its band members' skills.

"Wilco's sonic dexterity is stunning," says Spevak. "At times, Wilco sported a three-guitar attack, laying down a huge groove, or sometimes providing each musician a delicate platform from which to launch beautifully ringing notes."

It all culminated in the memorable opening track from Wilco's Nonesuch debut, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, reports Spevak:

Rock and spectacle came together beautifully as the band, six shadowy figures backlit by bright lights, created a metallic cacophony that soon gave way to that most-Wilco of emotional rides, "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart."
