Rokia Traoré kicks off a six-date tour of the UK with a performance at the Brighton Corn Exchange tonight. The UK tour, featuring music from her critically acclaimed new album, Beautiful Africa, includes stops in Leeds (Howard Assembly Room, November 7), Edinburgh (The Liquid Room, November 8), Derry (Guildhall, November 9), and Manchester (Royal Northern College of Music, November 11), before culminating in a show at the Royal Festival Hall in London with special guest Olivia Chaney on Thursday, November 13. Traoré and her band then head to New York City to launch a two-week North American tour at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater for the White Light Festival on November 15. See below for all of the currently scheduled tour dates. For additional details and tickets, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
Just last week, Beautiful Africa, which has been on the No. 1 spot on the CMJ New World Chart for five weeks running now, was revealed to be among the Best Albums of 2013 according to Songlines magazine, which also recently named Traoré to its Top Five Live list. "This year has been an incredibly rich, diverse and exciting one for new releases both within world, roots and folk music," said the magazine in announcing its top picks. A feature on all of the selected records will appear in the January/February edition of the magazine, on sale December 6. For now, you can see the full list here at songlines.co.uk.
To pick up a copy of Beautiful Africa, head to iTunes or to the Nonesuch Store, where CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout, and MP3 and FLAC files are available to purchase.
