Rostam, whose debut album, Half-Light, is due out a week from Friday, on September 15, on Nonesuch Records, has just made the album's title track available to download instantly with pre-orders of Half-Light on iTunes and the Nonesuch Store. You can watch a lyric video for the new track below.

"After I recorded the piano and my voice, I sat down at the drum kit and sketched in a beat," Rostam says of writing and recording the track. "Then I picked up the bass and added acoustic guitars. The next thing was the fuzz guitar. I worked quickly and didn't think too much about anything as I was recording it. This is how I made music as a teenager with a four-track. I got as far as the first fade out on the guitar solo, but I didn’t feel like the song was done yet. Kelly Zutrau was staying in my backhouse and one day I said, 'Hey Kelly, I’ve got this almost-finished song. do you think you could help me figure out the ending for it?' Kelly wrote the part she sings and helped me write the part that I sing after the guitar solo as well. I love the shift in perspective she brought to the song."

The track follows the previous release of five other album tracks—"Gwan" "Bike Dream," "Wood," "Don't Let It Get to You," and "EOS"—which are also available with pre-orders. Nonesuch Store pre-orders also include an exclusive print, a limited number of which will be signed by Rostam.

Rostam will celebrate the album's release with in-store performances / signings at Amoeba Hollywood in Los Angeles next Thursday, September 14, and at Easy Street Records in Seattle on Monday, September 18, and in concert at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York on September 27.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
