The nominations for the 2010 Tony Awards are in, and congratulations go the team behind A Little Night Music, which has received four nominations. This first-ever Broadway revival of the Stephen Sondheim / Hugh Wheeler musical has been nominated for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Catherine Zeta-Jones, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for Angela Lansbury, and Best Sound Design of a Musical for sound designers Dan Moses Schreier and Gareth Owen. The 64th Annual Tony Awards ceremony will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York on Sunday, June 13, and will be broadcast live on CBS stations across the country. The new cast recording for A Little Night Music was recently released by Nonesuch/PS Classics and is available now in the Nonesuch Store.

Further congratulations are in order for A Little Night Music on the news of its three Drama Desk Award nominations, for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Zeta-Jones, and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical. The announcements were made at an event held at the New York Friars Club yesterday morning, led by actors Brian Stokes Mitchell (who can be heard on the Nonesuch recording of Stephen Sondheim's The Frogs) and Cady Huffman. The Drama Desk Awards are chosen by theater critics and writers. Patti LuPone will host the 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony, which will be held at Lincoln Center's LaGuardia Concert Hall on Sunday, May 23.

As we reported last week in the Nonesuch Journal, A Little Night Music was also nominated in three categories of the 60th Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards: Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Zeta-Jones), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Lansbury).

As announced yesterday in the Nonesuch Journal, the Nonesuch Store has teamed up with the musical's producers to offer ticket discounts for customers who purchase Secret Agent, the latest from Tony Allen, whom NPR described as "the man who helped create Afrobeat with Fela Kuti." The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
