The Telluride Bluegrass Festival gets under way in beautiful Telluride, Colorado, today and runs through the weekend with a number of Nonesuch artists slated to perform and give last weekend's Bonnaroo lineup a run for its money.
Performing this evening are Emmylou Harris and Shawn Colvin with Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller for a Three Girls & Their Buddy set and David Byrne, who finishes things off for the night.
On Friday, Toumani Diabaté joins touring partner Béla Fleck in an evening set, prior to Elvis Costello's taking the stage. On Saturday, Punch Brothers play an out-of-the ordinary set especially for the festival titled Punch Brothers Play & Sing Bluegrass. The band performs again the following night, celebrating the Summer Solstice on Sunday with another special set on the NightGrass stage, titled Punch Brothers Play & Sing Radiohead.
Also on Sunday, paths cross when Chris Thile's Nickel Creek band mates Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins perform in their other band, Works Progress Administration, which also features Benmont Tench and Greg Leisz (both of whom contributed to Sara's solo debut on Nonesuch), along with Toad the Wet Sprocket's Glenn Phillips and a number of other stellar musicians.
Emmylou Harris returns solo on Sunday night as the festival's final headlining artist, before the Telluride House Band, featuring the likes of Sam Bush, Béla Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Edgar Meyer, brings the proceedings to a close.
