The Black Keys, whose new album, El Camino, is due out December 6, are featured on the cover of the latest issue of American Songwriter. The band talks about the heady year-and-a-half that has followed the release of their album Brothers and about finding time between tour dates to write songs for the new album with producer Danger Mouse and put the record together in Auerbach's Nashville studio. "The hard work paid off," says American Songwriter. "El Camino cherry-picks the best things about previous Black Keys records ... and filters them through a smudged-up rock and roll lens."

The Black Keys, whose new album, El Camino, is due out just four weeks from tomorrow, on December 6, are featured on the cover of the latest issue of American Songwriter magazine.

In the cover article, "The Black Keys: Brothers in Arms," band mates Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney talk with American Songwriter's Andrew Leahey about the heady year-and-a-half that has followed the release of their multiple Grammy Award-winning album Brothers, and about finding time between tour dates to write songs for the new album with producer Danger Mouse and put the record together in Auerbach's "gearhead's paradise" of a studio in Nashville.

"The hard work paid off," writes Leahey of the new album. "El Camino cherry-picks the best things about previous Black Keys records—the mix of ‘60s soul and swampy electric blues; the raw analog production; the psychedelic smog that floats through the background like wisps of pot smoke—and filters them through a smudged-up rock and roll lens. It’s Brothers on steroids, with denser guitars and faster tempos."

To read the cover story and find out more about those new tracks, head over to americansongwriter.com and pick up a copy of the latest issue of the magazine, on newsstands now. The album's first single, "Lonely Boy," is also this week's Lyric of the Week on the site.

To pre-order El Camino and receive an instant download of "Lonely Boy," head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders also include high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s of the album starting release day, December 6.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
