When we brought you pics of The Black Keys' Patrick Carney celebrating at the Grammys last week with label mates from Wilco and Punch Brothers, we left out one interesting tidbit to surface from all the awards festivities. It seems that at another Grammy party not far from where the Nonesuch group had gathered, rock icon Rod Stewart humbly made it known to Rolling Stone that he'd love to collaborate with The Black Keys, rhetorically wondering whether they even knew who he was.
Rod can rest assured: Billboard magazine's Jonathan Cohen has followed up with Patrick, who reports that the guys would love to work with Stewart "as soon as he comes to Akron." Cohen also refers to the Ike Turner project that was in the works when Danger Mouse signed on to produce the Keys' forthcoming album, Attack & Release. To read the report, visit billboard.com.
Another famed rocker, of a different stripe, to have worked with one of The Black Keys recently is John Doe, founder of the seminal punk band X. The Keys' Dan Auerbach plays guitar on Doe's own new album. Doe tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer pop music critic John Soeder it was Juliana Hatfield who first set him onto The Black Keys back when the duo released its first album. Doe and Auerbach hadn't played together before the recording, but, says Doe, "I like 'em." The X founder joins Wilco on the remainder of their US tour, starting tomorrow night in Cleveland and running through March 9 in Des Moines. To read the interview, visit cleveland.com.
The first single off The Black Keys' Attack & Release, "Strange Times," is available now for download on iTunes and Amazon.
