The Low Anthem performed at Saturday's multi-artist Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concert in Boston; the Boston Globe included the set among the event's highlights, calling the group "a dazzlingly talented bunch." Now comes word that the band will be headlining its first North American tour this spring and making its US television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday. It will also spend much of February supporting The Avett Brothers on the road.

The Low Anthem performed at Boston's House of Blues on Saturday for the multi-artist Hot Stove Cool Music concert, a benefit for the Red Sox Foundation's Foundation to Be Named Later. The Boston Globe included The Low Anthem's set among the highlights of the evening, calling the group "a dazzlingly talented bunch." Now comes word that the band will be headlining its first North American tour in March and April and making its US television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman this Thursday, January 14. It will also spend much of February supporting The Avett Brothers on the road.

Last year was a benchmark one for The Low Anthem: the band toured for the larger part of it behind its Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, which was named Magnet's No. 1 Album of 2009, Uncut's Americana Album of the Year, and Boston Music Awards' Album of the Year. The record figured prominently on year-end lists in Paste, MOJO, Q, and Uncut. It was also a New York Times Critic's Pick, and NPR's Bob Boilen coined the song "Charlie Darwin" one of the best of the year. The nearly constant tour included stints with Ray Lamontagne, Elvis Perkins, and Josh Ritter, as well as festival stops at Bonnaroo, Glastonbury and Newport Folk, among others.

On a short break from the road, the band has been busy working on the followup to Charlie Darwin, holing up in an abandoned pasta sauce factory in Central Falls, Rhode Island. The band is no stranger to recording in unique spaces, having ferried 27-plus instruments over to Block Island, Rhode Island, in January 2008 for the recording of Darwin. You can follow their updates at the band's website. As reported last week in the Nonesuch Journal, on January 31, The Low Anthem will also premiere its new weekly radio show on WOXY called the Trala-Lala Radio Hour w/ The Low Anthem. The show will be at 10 AM ET on Sundays, 8 PM ET Mondays. The group will keep up its radio streak with a performance on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic when the band members make their way through Los Angeles on the upcoming tour.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
