The Low Anthem's West Coast tour will begin one day later than planned, at LA's Bootleg Theatre tomorrow. Now comes word that The Low Anthem will return to the Newport Folk Festival for the third year in a row, playing the main stage on July 31. Label mates Punch Brothers perform the next day. Discounted tickets are available through Friday. Chris Thile performs at the Savannah Music Festival tonight and will join up with Punch Brothers in Portland, Maine, this weekend.
The Low Anthem's West Coast headlining tour will now begin one day later than planned, as tonight's show at Largo in Los Angeles has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Los Angeles still kicks things off with a Thursday night show at The Bootleg Theatre in Silverlake, and the band's limited-edition vinyl 7-inch single of "Charlie Darwin" remains available in the Nonesuch Store.
While there's much in store already with all of the previously scheduled tour dates ahead, now comes word that The Low Anthem will return to the Newport Folk Festival for the third year in a row. The Rhode Island-based band first attended their home state's famed festival as recycling crew in 2008, returned last summer to play the small stage on the 50th anniversary of the event (you can hear their set on npr.org), and this time around will play John Prine Day, July 31, on the Main Stage. There is a special pre-sale rate on tickets ordered through this Friday, March 26, for that day's shows, using the code ANTHEM at ticketmaster.com. There is an even larger discount for the full weekend of concerts, also at ticketmaster.com, with the same code, ANTHEM.
And there's good reason to stay for the second day of performances, August 1, as The Low Anthem's fellow Nonesuch artists Punch Brothers will be taking the stage then. Tickets for that date alone are also available for pre-order via ticketmaster.com through Friday using the promo code PUNCH.
Punch Brothers' Chris Thile is currently in Savannah, Georgia, for two performances at the Charles H. Morris Center tonight as part of the Savannah Music Festival. Thile joins fellow mandolinists Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg for a showcase of their instrument. He'll meet up with the band again this Friday for a Punch Brothers show at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine, followed by a solo performance at the hall with the Portland Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, featuring his Mandolin Concerto.
