Tony Allen and his new album, Secret Agent, were recently featured on PRI's The World. Allen discusses his role as "the man who put the beat in Afrobeat," his work with Fela Kuti, and in the many other musical idioms in which he has proven himself to be at home. The Cleveland Plain Dealer gives Secret Agent an A, saying of Allen: "On Secret Agent, his authoritative rhythms propel hypnotic, horn-blasting jams that dare you not to dance."

Tony Allen was recently featured on the public radio news magazine The World, a program of the BBC, PRI, and WGBH offering a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe. Allen, who recently made his World Circuit / Nonesuch Records debut with the album Secret Agent, talks with the show's host, Marco Werman, about his role as "the man who put the beat in Afrobeat," dating back to his days as Fela Kuti's drummer. Allen and Werman go on to discuss the many other musical idioms in which Allen has proven himself to be at home, from his early inspirations in the jazz of Max Road to his recent collaborations with Damon Albarn.
