The Low Anthem, having just completed its biggest-ever headline show last night in London, will soon be back in the States for two months of non-stop touring. The Low Anthem, having just completed its biggest-ever headline show at 02 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London last night, will soon be taking the show back home to the States for two months of non-stop touring. Before the quartet left for Europe in January, it shot two on-the-go videos in New York City for The Take-Away Shows, a spontaneous-music-making series of videos from the French-language music blog La Blogotheque.
In the first video, The Low Anthem performs the new song "Apothecary"—which BBC 6 Music listeners may have heard on yesterday morning's show with Lauren Laverne—in the grandeur of Grand Central Station's Great Hall, albeit a bit surreptitiously, given security and all. "Perhaps it was the season," reports filmmaker Adam Hall, "but somehow the officers let the band play, let us roll our camera, and let the passersby watch. For a moment we were all on the same path."
For the next video, the crew heads over to The Frying Pan on Manhattan's Pier 66 as the sun began to set, to perform a haunting rendition of "This God Damn House," in the beauty of the twilight. "By the time I got my gas lantern lit," writes Hall, "The Low Anthem was in their element."

On Saturday, filmmaker Vincent Moon, a founder and director of The Take-Away Shows, will be at UnionDocs in Brooklyn, New York, to screen some of the series films and discuss the project. For tickets and information, visit uniondocs.org.
