Punch Brothers were the inaugural artists-in-residence at Oberlin Conservatory through Oberlin’s American Roots Residency Fund, established by actor-comedian-alum Ed Helms. Conservatory students from a broad range of disciplines participated in the band's three-part residency on campus in the 2013–14 academic year. Oberlin has now put together a video recounting the residency, showing highlights from throughout the year's workshops and performances and talking with the band and Helms, who says: "I’ve kind of stopped being surprised at the ways in which the Punch Brothers blow my mind." See what the band has to say and watch highlights from the residency here.

During the 2013–14 academic year, Punch Brothers were the inaugural artists-in-residence at Oberlin Conservatory produced through Oberlin’s American Roots Residency Fund, which was established by actor-comedian Ed Helms, a 1996 Oberlin graduate and an avid musician. (Punch Brothers guitarist Chris Eldridge is a 2004 graduate of Oberlin College.) Conservatory students from a broad range of disciplines participated in the band's three-part residency on campus, which culminated in a collaborative performance on Commencement Weekend this past May.

Oberlin has now put together a video, which you can watch below, recounting the residency, showing highlights from throughout the year's workshops and performances and talking with Helms and the band about the impact of their interactions with the students.

“I’ve kind of stopped being surprised at the ways in which the Punch Brothers blow my mind,” says Helms. “The fact that the Punch Brothers can just jump in and play the Brandenburg Concerto with the students is a tribute to their passion as musicians and their desire to know and understand all forms of music. It’s like chocolate and peanut butter. It’s two things that are wonderful on their own, and you mix them together, and it’s ‘Wow, that’s really, really delicious also.’”
