Singer and string instrumentalist Sam Amidon has released a new video for the song "Blue Mountains," off his latest Nonesuch Records release, Lily-O. The song is an Appalachian ballad that tells an enigmatic tale of a young woman who falls in love with a married man. The video, which was created by filmmaker and fine-art/fashion photographer Andrea Sisson, premiered earlier today via Paste magazine, which calls Lily-O "excellent." The video was shot in Ojai, California, and features Amidon and model/actress Alex Noiret. Watch it below.

"I met Sam several years ago on a New Year's Eve in Iceland at Greenhouse Studios, amongst vodka, lamb and wild discussions," Sisson said. "I found Sam on some steps in a corner, reading a book of poetry to a group of my friends; other musicians and artists. When we reconnected in Los Angeles five years later and he asked me to do this piece with him, I thought back to that night and immediately said 'yes'."

"When I met Andrea in Iceland we were both pursuing our own artistic endeavors," Amidon said. "I was making music with Valgeir Sigurðsson and she was doing film and fashion and possibly, making her movie I Send You This Place. She makes beautiful videos and conjures magical images. I felt that her light-filled elegiac tone would match up with this song of uncertain adventure, and it did!"

Amidon is currently on tour supporting Sharon Van Etten in Europe and the UK. Following the support dates, Amidon headlines his own string of European shows, culminating in a concert at London's Islington Assembly Hall on May 10. Amidon makes several US festival appearances this summer including Solid Sound Festival, Eaux Claires, and Pickathon. For details, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

To pick up a copy of Lily-O, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a free MP3 download of the complete album at checkout.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
