Sam Amidon, who made his Nonesuch Records debut with the release of his new album, Bright Sunny South, earlier this week, has unveiled the official video for the album's adaptation of the traditional tune "As I Roved Out." The video, directed by John Hardwick, premiered on NPR Music yesterday; watch it below.

MusicOMH, in its four-star review of Bright Sunny South, says the song "is arguably the most striking track on the album, largely down to Amidon’s liberated vocals and his unpolished, rustic banjo playing. It reflects the mild eccentricities found in his live shows whilst also managing to simultaneously sound contemporary and old-time. It’s a combination that has been present in his music from day one and Bright Sunny South proves it’s one that still reaps significant dividends."

The Quietus, in its review of Bright Sunny South, says that on this track and another traditional tune, "Amidon's passion and precision come together to create tracks that sound fresh and dynamic."

Sam Amidon will perform songs from the new album at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City tonight. The show, which starts at 7:30 PM, will be streaming live via Livestream. Click here to watch the concert live.

While in New York, Amidon stopped by the studios of New York public radio station WNYC to perform a few songs from Bright Sunny South on Soundcheck and talk with host John Schaefer about the new album. The episode—including live performances of the album tunes "I Wish I Wish," "As I Roved Out," and "Short Life"—is available in full here:

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
