Tigran Hamasyan performed two songs from his new album, An Ancient Observer, for NDR Kultur Neo in Germany: "Markos and Markos" and "Egyptian Poet." You can watch the performances here. "Tigran Hamaysan hovers between fast-paced jazz improvisation, classical piano art, and the enchanted music of his native Armenia," says NDR Kultur, which gives the album four stars.

Tigran Hamasyan, whose new album, An Ancient Observer, was released today, recently stopped by the German television's NDR Kultur Neo to perform two songs from the album: "Markos and Markos" and "Egyptian Poet." You can watch the performances below. "Tigran Hamaysan hovers between fast-paced jazz improvisation, classical piano art, and the enchanted music of his native Armenia," says NDR Kultur, which gives the album four stars and named it the "jazz earworm of the day."

An Ancient Observer includes ten new compositions, some of which are through-composed and completely written out, while others are composed with ample space for Hamasyan to improvise. He cites a wide range of influences—from Baroque dance to hip-hop grooves adapted to piano—and the sounds of his native country of Armenia are present, as always.

To pick up a copy of An Ancient Observer, head to iTunes, Amazon, and the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout. You can also listen to the album on Spotify and Apple Music. For tickets to see Hamaysan on tour, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
