Yo-Yo Ma has partnered with Knoxville-based arts nonprofit Big Ears for the multi-faceted concert “Our Common Nature: An Appalachian Celebration,” with musical guests Rhiannon Giddens, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer, on Friday, May 26, at World’s Fair Park in Knoxville, TN. In addition, Thile and Giddens will each perform a concert, May 25 and May 27, respectively, at Knoxville's Bijou Theatre. Conceived and curated by Ma, the World’s Fair Park celebration will include musicians, storytellers, and poets from throughout the Appalachian region, and will be the culmination of a week-long series of cultural experiences and conversations that lift the myriad voices of Appalachia—Indigenous, European, Latinx, Black, and beyond.

"What happens when you put a world-renowned cellist, a MacArthur fellow bassist, and another MacArthur winner and mandolin player together?" asks host Meghna Chakrabarti. Bach Trios, an album of Bach works recorded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, mandolinist Chris Thile, and bassist Edgar Meyer, is now available in a two-LP vinyl edition, following its recent release on CD and digitally. The Times (UK) calls it "irresistible." The Observer says the musicians are "in perfect harmony." Herald Scotland exclaims: "A new classic ...Truly, virtuosity is its own reward." The trio begins a nine-city US tour at Boston's Symphony Hall tonight.

American Acoustic, a Chris Thile–curated festival at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, gets under way this evening and runs through Saturday. The performances feature collaborations between Thile and performers including Punch Brothers, Michael Daves, Edgar Meyer, and others. "One of the thesis statements of the week is going to be to look beyond genre and examine and celebrate the similarities between great instances of music making, rather than the differences," Thile tells the Washington Post.

Congratulations to John Adams, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer, all winners at the 57th Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles last night. Adams's City Noir won the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance for the St. Louis Symphony and conductor David Robertson, featuring saxophonist Timothy McAllister. Thile and Meyer's duo album, Bass & Mandolin, won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. 

Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens, and the duo of Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer will be among the performers at the 42nd annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, taking place June 18–21, 2015, the weekend of the summer solstice. The preliminary lineup for the much-loved Colorado event was announced earlier today, just before the winter solstice. Among the other performers are Thile's fellow Punch Brother Noam Pikelny, who will perform with fiddler Stuart Duncan.​

Congratulations to all of the Nonesuch artists who were nominated for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, announced earlier today by The Recording Academy: The Black Keys, Nickel Creek, Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer, John Adams, and Brad Mehldau. Together, these artists' Nonesuch releases have garnered a total of 11 nominations this year. The 57th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on "Grammy Sunday," February 8, 2015, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS.

The duo kicked off a North American tour this week in Vancouver.
