Natalie Merchant has released the video for "Big Girls," a song from her new album, Keep Your Courage. The song is one of two duets on the album sung with vocalist Abena Koomson-Davis of Resistance Revival Chorus, along with "Come on, Aphrodite." That video and the new video for "Big Girls," which you can watch here, were directed by Matthew Shattuck. Merchant's tour continues with shows in Pennsylvania and Virginia this week. 

Natalie Merchant's new album, Keep Your Courage, is out now on Nonesuch Records. Produced by Merchant, the new LP is her ninth solo studio album, and the first of all-new material since 2014’s self-titled record. Keep Your Courage "has some of Merchant’s best songwriting," says the AP. NPR says: "That lush, layered contralto voice can belong to only one person." Mojo calls it "her most beautiful in decades." "Welcome return of a unique voice,” says Uncut. “An album contemplating what it is that keeps us plodding forwards despite everything. Merchant’s conclusion is, as always, wittily expressed and beautifully sung.” Merchant kicks off an extensive tour in Poughkeepsie, NY, tonight.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced its 2023–24 concert season, and featured among the performers taking the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage in its 20th anniversary season are John Adams, Thomas Adès, Timo Andres, Brad Mehldau, Natalie Merchant, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Natalie Merchant, whose new album, Keep Your Courage, is due April 14, performs the title track to her 2001 album Motherland in a new Blackberry Sessions video. She was joined by guitarist Erik Della Penna in making the video while at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee in November as part of its annual Americana Music Association weekend. You can watch it here. Keep Your Courage, Natalie Merchant’s tenth solo studio album and the first of new material since her 2014 self-titled record, is due April 14. An eclectic album, produced by Merchant, it features lush orchestrations throughout, two duets sung with vocalist Abena Koomson-Davis of Resistance Revival Chorus, contributions from the Celtic folk group Lúnasa and Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and horn arrangements by jazz trombonist Steve Davis. There are nine original songs by Merchant and an interpretation of a song by Ian Lynch of the Irish band Lankum. The vinyl LP edition includes four bonus tracks from earlier albums, previously unreleased on vinyl. Merchant will tour the US in the spring and fall. 

Natalie Merchant has been appointed to the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center Board of Trustees by US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to support the ongoing preservation and promotion of the country’s folklore, cultural traditions, music, and arts, and aid in the long-term planning and policy direction of the center. Merchant says: "It’s such an honor to be selected to serve on the Folklife Center board. I’ve admired the work of this agency for many years and hope to find some way to help further their mission of preserving and promoting all forms of folk arts in America."

Natalie Merchant was a guest on the Sheroes podcast hosted by Carmel Holt. They spoke at the Newport Folk Festival in July, where Merchant took part in a number of special collaborative performances.
