The Magnetic Fields’ Quickies will be released on Nonesuch on May 29, 2020. The five 7" vinyl box set features twenty-eight new short songs by Stephin Merritt, ranging in length from thirteen seconds to two minutes and thirty-five seconds. Preorder in the Nonesuch Store to download "The Day the Politicians Died" (the video for which can be seen here) now and get an exclusive, limited-edition print autographed by Merritt.

Stephin Merritt will lead a four-concert residency at Symphony Space in NYC this fall, titled From 69 to 50: A Stephin Merritt / Magnetic Fields Residency, showcasing three of his bands: The Magnetic Fields will perform two Saturday night shows at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, November 16 and December 7; Future Bible Heroes will perform at Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre on November 21; and The Gothic Archies at the Thalia on December 12.

Stephin Merritt will perform original music he has written to score a screening of Tod Browning's 1925 silent film The Unholy Three, starring Lon Cheney, at The Town Hall in NYC on May 18, 2019. The Magnetic Fields front man will be joined by accordionist and novelist Daniel Handler (A Series of Unfortunate Events) and violist Pinky Weitzman for the one-night-only event. This is Merritt's first live silent-film scoring event on the East Coast, following his successful live score to two other Tod Browning films at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2010 and 2014.

The Magnetic Fields will bring 50 Song Memoir back on the road in June, performing at the Apollo Theater in NYC on June 15 and 16, Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh on June 19 and 20, and the Luminato Festival in Toronto on June 22 and 23.

The Magnetic Fields have brought their 50 Song Memoir tour—which chronicles the 50 years of songwriter Stephin Merritt's life with one song per year—to the UK and Ireland. The tour, performed over two nights in each city (songs 1–25 on night one, songs 26–50 on night two), begins with two nights at the Edinburgh International Festival this Friday and Saturday, followed by dates in Dublin, Bristol, Liverpool, and Brighton, culminating at London’s Barbican Hall on September 9 and 10.

The Magnetic Fields will bring their 50 Song Memoir tour to Arts Centre Melbourne's Hamer Hall on October 21 and 22 as part of the Melbourne Festival in the exclusive Australian presentation of the show. The Melbourne performances follow a US tour earlier this year and a tour of the UK and Ireland taking place later this summer.

When Stephin Merritt was in Chicago last month during the Magnetic Fields' 50 Song Memoir tour stops at Thalia Hall, he visited the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago for a public conversation about the new album with Pitchfork's Marc Hogan for the In Sight Out arts and culture series. You can hear the conversation here. The Magnetic Fields perform all 50 songs from the new album at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in June and on tour in the UK and Ireland in late August.
