Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor—two-thirds of the Staves—shared some records that have influenced their music and have been part of their lives with Rough Trade NYC's Transmissions series on Instagram, including favorites by The Beatles, Kate Bush, CSNY and others. The Staves have released "Devotion," the fourth and final track to be shared ahead of the February 5 release of their new album, Good Woman. "Devotion" follows the previously released album tracks "Satisfied," "Trying," and "Good Woman." "This song came from a feeling of being totally at the mercy of someone else," the Staves say of the new track. "Being a passenger and never a driver in any situation. Being blinded by devotion and unable to navigate the way out."

The Staves have announced a live-streamed, ticketed event for February 5, the release date of their new album, Good Woman. The performance, filmed at the London venue Lafayette, will celebrate The Staves’ musical career, from their debut album to the new record, with a mix of intimate stripped back performances and songs with a full band. "Given the current lockdown restrictions we sadly had to cancel our Christmas show at short notice," says the band, "so we wanted to find a way to play live for everyone. We are beyond thrilled to be performing again and to bring something new to our fans."

Just in time for the holidays, The Staves have released an intimate live performance video of their 2018 holiday tune "Home Alone, Too," which you can watch here. The original recording can be heard at the close of the Christmas Eve episode of the new Netflix series Dash & Lily.

The Staves' Camilla and Jessica Staveley-Taylor in London spoke with The Current's Jill Riley in St. Paul, Minnesota, about the upcoming Staves album, Good Woman, due February 5. The Staves have release the song “Satisfied” from their upcoming album, Good Woman, and a live video performance of the same, which can be seen here. "This started out with an acoustic guitar," the band says of "Satisfied." "The song asking its subject, ‘Will they ever be satisfied with what they have? Is it ever enough?’ But also urging them not to give up on themselves, and love. The song really came to life when we added the band and gave strength and a backbone to the whole sentiment of the song (as well as a great groove!). Hope you enjoy.”

The Staves have released a live video for "Good Woman," the title track to their upcoming album, due February 5 on Nonesuch in the US. The video was made in London's Sunbeam Studios, directed by Olivia Eames. The Staves say: "We’d like to thank our amazing band, Glyn, Marcus, Chris and Rob, and all the crew involved for making this shoot possible whilst observing social distancing rules and keeping all of us super safe."

The Staves release their first new album in six years, Good Woman, February 5, 2021, on Nonesuch Records in the US. Good Woman was written and recorded in a time of tremendous turmoil and change for the band, between the ending of relationships, the death of their beloved mother, and the birth of Emily’s first child. Produced by John Congleton, the album is a testament to the Stavely-Taylors’ strength and that of other women; to sisters, mothers, and daughters; to love, loss, and change; and to trying to be a good woman.

The Staves have released "Trying," the second track from the British trio this year, following last month’s release of "Nazareth." "I wanted to write a song about the state of things in the world and how broken our ability to communicate with each other had become as a society," Camilla Staveley-Taylor says of the new track, "but it became impossible as I was writing to separate my personal life from the broader message ... I feel like trying is what we spend most of our lives doing really. Just trying our best."

The Staves got together to perform some songs from the kitchen for an Instagram Live session on Sunday—from an early song, "Icarus," to their latest, "Nazareth," released last week, as well as "Make It Holy," from their 2015 debut album, If I Was, and more. You can watch it again here.

The Staves have released "Nazareth," the band’s first new music since its 2017 EP with yMusic. "We recorded 'Nazareth' in one take on a field recorder sat outside the studio in the summer of 2018," says the trio. "The sun was shining and the birds were singing. We tried recording it in the studio but just kept coming back to this version. It seemed to have the magic.  The song was intended to be in the spirit of an Irish blessing or a kind of a prayer, asking to be kept safe—but it pretty quickly became a more personal and introspective lyric. Moments of glory quickly faded. Worrying, trying. How we mean everything and nothing at the same time. To everyone, to no one."
