    Record Store Day, the annual celebration of independent record stores, takes place over two RSD Drops on two Saturdays this year, and included among the special releases are: on June 12, Conor Oberst's Ruminations (Expanded Edition), a two-LP remastered edition of his acclaimed 2016 solo album with five bonus tracks; and on July 17, Randy Newman’s Roll with the Punches: The Studio Albums (1979–2017), an eight-LP set of his latest seven studio albums, including Bad Love on vinyl for the first time and Faust demos.

    Congratulations to Lake Street Dive, whose new album, Obviously, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Album Chart, No. 1 on the Americana/Folk Chart, and No. 2 on both the Current Rock Albums and Current Alternative Albums charts. The band performed the album opener, "Hypotheticals," on The Ellen Show, which you can watch here.

    Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, an album of songs written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion, is due June 25 on Nonesuch Records. With Shaw on vocals and Sō filling out this new band, they developed songs in the studio, with lyrics inspired by their own wide-ranging interests: James Joyce, the Sacred Harp hymnal, a poem by Anne Carson, the Bible’s Book of Ruth, the American roots tune “I’ll Fly Away,” the pop music of ABBA, and more. Pre-order to download “To the Sky” now and get a custom climbing pole bean seed packet hand-printed and signed by Shaw.

    k.d. lang’s makeover, a new collection of classic dance remixes of some of her best-loved songs, is due May 28 on Nonesuch Records, including on translucent turquoise vinyl. The album brings these remixes, made between 1992 and 2000, together for the first time, and includes “Sexuality,” “Miss Chatelaine,” “Theme from The Valley of the Dolls,” “Summerfling,” and the #1 dance chart hits “Lifted By Love” and “If I Were You.” makeover’s cover art features a previously unseen 1995 portrait of lang by David LaChapelle. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include an instant download of “Miss Chatelaine (St. Tropez Mix),” the video for which can be seen here; an exclusive, limited-edition print of the album cover signed by lang; and a paper doll PDF set, designed by a fan, Katja Virtanen, to print out at home, featuring iconic looks from throughout her career.

    Lake Street Dive's new album, Obviously, is out now on Nonesuch Records. In celebration of the new record, the group performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, which you can watch here, and will perform on CBS This Morning: Saturday Sessions tomorrow. Obviously was produced by Grammy Award winner Mike Elizondo, a songwriting collaborator for Dr. Dre, Eminem, and 50 Cent and record producer for Fiona Apple and Mary J. Blige, among others. "You need to make this band part of your life," exclaims the AP. "Lake Street Dive have never sounded better, full and clear with every instrument given a chance to shine in every song."

    Louis Andriessen’s The only one is out now on Nonesuch Records. This world premiere performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic was recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall in May 2019, conducted by LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, with solo vocalist Nora Fischer. Two artistic discoveries influenced Andriessen as he wrote The only one: a collection of poems by the Flemish poet Delphine Lecompte from The animals in me, and the work of Nora Fischer, an Amsterdam–based singer known for developing dynamic creative projects that fuse classical and pop music.     Laurie Anderson’s 1982 debut album, Big Science, returns to vinyl for the first time in thirty years with a new red vinyl edition due April 9 on Nonesuch Records. The vinyl includes the re-mastered album first released on CD for the 25th anniversary of Big Science in 2007 and is available to pre-order now. Big Science foresaw the future, mixing performance art, pop, and electronics, most hauntingly on the hit single, “O Superman.”

    Emmylou Harris's Nonesuch Records debut album, Red Dirt Girl, which was first released more than twenty years ago, in September 2000, is now available on limited-edition, translucent red vinyl. Harris wrote all but one of the tracks on Red Dirt Girl, which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. It was produced by Malcolm Burn, who also performs on the album, along with Buddy Miller, Daryl Johnson, and Ethan Johns. Dave Matthews sings a duet with Harris, and Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, and Patty Griffin also contribute vocals.

    Mountain Man has released Mountain Man Sings Fiona Apple, featuring its version of “Hot Knife,” from Apple’s 2012 album, The Idler Wheel..., the latest release in the trio's series of cover singles. "If we followed Questlove's advice and made gratitude lists before we went to bed every night," the trio says, "Fiona Apple would be at the top every time. She tells the truth like no one else does. Thank you, Fiona Apple. We love you." Glide described a 2018 Mountain Man performance of the song as “three voices colliding and weaving like a sensual fever dream.”

    "Green," the haunting closing theme from the critically acclaimed and award winning film Sound of Metal that is written and performed by the film’s co-writer and composer Abraham Marder and produced by Thomas Bartlett, is out now on Nonesuch Records; an accompanying video can be seen here. “Green” is one of the fifteen songs on The Academy Awards shortlist for Best Original Song. A full motion picture soundtrack will also be released by Nonesuch later this year; details will be announced shortly. Sound of Metal, directed by Darius Marder and co-written by Darius and Abraham Marder, tells the story of Ruben, played by Riz Ahmed, an iterant punk-metal drummer who begins to unravel when he suddenly loses his hearing and identity.

    Rhiannon Giddens’ new album, They're Calling Me Home, recorded with Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, will be released April 9 (vinyl June 11) on Nonesuch Records; vinyl is due June 11. The album was recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown in Ireland. The two expats found themselves drawn to and comforted by the music of their native and adoptive countries of America, Italy, and Ireland, which they recorded at a spare studio on a working farm outside of Dublin. The result is a twelve-song album that speaks to the longing for the comfort of home as well as the metaphorical call "home" of death. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include a limited-edition, autographed print and an instant download of the song "Calling Me Home," the video for which can be seen here.

    The Staves release their first new album in six years, Good Woman, out now on Nonesuch Records in the US. Good Woman was written and recorded in a time of tremendous turmoil and change for the band, between the ending of relationships, the death of their beloved mother, and the birth of Emily’s first child. Produced by John Congleton, the album is a testament to the Stavely-Taylors’ strength and that of other women; to sisters, mothers, and daughters; to love, loss, and change; and to trying to be a good woman. The Staves celebrate the album's release with a live-streamed, ticketed concert from the London venue Lafayette tonight.
