    Lily-O, a new album of reimagined folk songs by Vermont-born singer / fiddler / banjoist / guitarist Sam Amidon will be released September 30 by Nonesuch Records (with vinyl to come October 28).The album was produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Feist) and features the innovative jazz guitarist and composer Bill Frisell, along with Amidon’s other frequent collaborators, bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Chris Vatalaro. Amidon tours in Europe this summer and performs as part of BAM's celebration of Nonesuch’s 50th anniversary. Pre-orders of Lily-O are available now in the Nonesuch Store with an instant download of the album track "Walkin’ Boss,” which premiered on Stereogum.

    Nonesuch releases the second recording collaboration by bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolinist Chris Thile—Bass & Mandolin—September 9, 2014. The album features ten original compositions by the two artists, who have been performing together sporadically for more than a decade and made their recording debut as a duo with 2008’s Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile, which the Washington Post praised, saying “Thile and Meyer are most enthralling when they pass a melody back and forth, fingers flying.” The duo embarks on a month-long North American tour on September 16. Bass & Mandolin is available to pre-order with an instant download of the album track “Tarnation.”

    Today marks the release of the soundtrack to Richard Linklater's Boyhood; the movie opens this Friday, July 11, in the UK, NYC, and LA before going wider across the US next week. Shot over 12 years with the same cast, Boyhood is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child who literally grows up on screen before the viewers’ eyes. The New York Times calls it "one of the most extraordinary movies of 2014, or for that matter the 21st century so far." The film’s soundtrack spans the story’s 12 years, with songs ranging from the year 2000 (Coldplay’s “Yellow”) to 2013 (Yo La Tengo’s “I’ll Be Around”), plus the Paul McCartney and Wings classic “Band on the Run” and the debut of a new song written by Jeff Tweedy.

    Robert Plant’s new album, lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar, will be released September 9 on Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Plant, the album is his label debut and features 11 new recordings, nine of which are original songs written by Plant with his band, The Sensational Space Shifters.     Nonesuch Records releases the soundtrack to Richard Linklater's film Boyhood on July 8, 2014. Shot over 12 years with the same cast, Boyhood is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason, who literally grows up on screen before the viewers’ eyes. The soundtrack spans the story's 12 years, with songs ranging from the year 2000 (Coldplay's "Yellow" and The Hives' "Hate to Say I Told You So") to 2013 (Yo La Tengo's "I’ll Be Around"). The album also includes the classic "Band on the Run," by Paul McCartney and Wings, and the debut of a new song written by Jeff Tweedy and performed by the father/song duo Tweedy, "Summer Noon."

    Saxophonist Joshua Redman’s Trios Live is out now. The album was recorded at New York City’s Jazz Standard and Washington, DC’s Blues Alley during stands with two different trios—Redman and drummer Gregory Hutchinson with bassist Matt Penman (Jazz Standard) and Redman and Hutchinson with bassist Reuben Rogers (Blues Alley). Trios Live features four original tunes by Redman and interpretations of three additional songs. "It’s a great set," raves the Financial Times, "full of muscular rhythms and the abandon of live performance, yet as tightly argued as a rigorous studio date."

    Louis Andriessen’s Grawemeyer Award–winning La Commedia is out now, as a two-CD-plus-DVD set. The film opera, a collaboration with director Hal Hartley, is based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, with additional texts including the Old Testament’s “Song of Songs.” This Dutch National Opera production features the Asko and Schönberg Ensembles, led by Reinbert de Leeuw. The Washington Post calls La Commedia "an exciting, powerful and rich piece that shows Andriessen at the top of his game." The Los Angeles Times considers it "the greatest opera of the century so far."

    Conor Oberst's new solo album, Upside Down Mountain, is out now. "Oberst faces west and backward, brilliantly, on Upside Down Mountain," writes Rolling Stone's David Fricke in a four-star review. "A sumptuous immersion in Seventies California folk pop, it is the most immediately charming album he has ever made." Oberst performs on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon tonight and on CBS This Morning on Saturday. He performs at Rough Trade NYC in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

    Toumani and Sidiki, the new father-and-son recording from kora master Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki, is out now in North America. The Guardian calls it "the finest Toumani collaboration since his classic work with Ali Farka Touré." The Evening Standard calls it "a rare treat, one of the albums of the year." The Times of London says: "This album ranks among Toumani's best work." Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté will tour the United States this fall.

    Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté is joined by his eldest son, Sidiki, for the new father-and-son recording Toumani & Sidiki. The album, due out next Monday, May 19, in North America, is streaming in full all this week via the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog. Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté will embark on a US tour starting at BAM in Brooklyn, September 24, and running through October 3.

    The Black Keys' new album, Turn Blue, is out now. Rolling Stone gives the album four-and-a-half stars, calling it "the best, most consistently gripping album The Black Keys have ever made." The AP hears "the sound of a band operating at the peak of its power." Turn Blue is Album of the Week in the Guardian, the Times, Metro, and Independent, which gives it five stars, calling it "a post-modern blues-rock marvel." Mojo says it "underlines the fact that The Black Keys are the most vital rock band in the world right now." The band performs on The Colbert Report tonight, and Patrick Carney leads a Reddit AMA on Wednesday. Ticket pre-sale for the fall tour began this morning; general on-sale begins this Friday.

    Conor Oberst's new album, Upside Down Mountain, due out next Monday, May 19 (with vinyl due to arrive May 30), is streaming in full all this week as an NPR First Listen. The album is "artful and beautifully realized," writes NPR's Tom Moon. "Upside Down Mountain suggests that Oberst is growing, rapidly, as a craftsman ... [H]e's brokering interior thoughts, choosing clusters of words for the ways they thrive, or sometimes disappear, inside the sonic swirl." Oberst is on tour now with special guest Dawes.
