Laurie Anderson's new film, Heart of a Dog—which has been shown at numerous film festivals to critical praise—begins its theatrical run at the Film Forum in NYC tonight and continues there through November 3. Anderson attends screenings tonight and each day this weekend. Following the Film Forum run, Heart of a Dog will be shown in theaters across the US. It also will air on HBO in early 2016. The New York Times calls it a "dreamy, drifty and altogether lovely movie." New York calls it "one of the most moving and provocative films you'll see this year." Nonesuch Records releases the Heart of a Dog soundtrack this Friday, October 23.

Following its October 8 opening at the New York Film Festival, Paul Thomas Anderson's new film, Junun, will have its exclusive worldwide premiere on MUBI on October 9. Anderson joined Jonny Greenwood and Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur on a trip to Rajasthan, India, where Greenwood (with the Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich) and a group of musicians from across the Indian sub-continent worked on an album to be released by Nonesuch in November. Additional details on the album will be announced shortly.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the debut of Ken Burns's acclaimed documentary The Civil War, PBS will rebroadcast the series over five consecutive nights starting Labor Day Monday, September 7. This is the first presentation of a newly restored, high-definition version of the landmark documentary. This is also the first time the film will be seen with the same fidelity and framing as the negative that Burns and his co-cinematographers Allen Moore and Buddy Squires shot more than 25 years ago. The film's soundtrack, released on Nonesuch Records in 1990, won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced Laurie Anderson as the artist behind the design for the 53rd New York Film Festival poster. She joins a lineup of artists to have commissioned their work for the festival that includes Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, and, Laurie Simmons. "The NYFF is such an eclectic and ecstatically wild mix of films, and I wanted to try to capture some of the variety of subjects and styles," says Laurie Anderson. "I made this painting two years ago when I was feeling especially inspired by the scale of projected film and the possibilities of abrupt jump cuts. I’m so happy it’s the poster for this year’s festival."

Wilco has released a full-length documentary film entitled Every Other Summer, about the band's music and arts festival, Solid Sound. Directed by Christoph Green and Brendan Canty of Trixie Films and shot in 2013, it documents the three-day event, which takes place at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA. The film features appearances and performances from a number of festival artists including Sam Amidon, who returns to Solid Sound next weekend with Bill Frisell. The two give a free set in Brooklyn's Prospect Park tonight for Celebrate Brooklyn!. 

Paul Thomas Anderson's latest feature film, Inherent Vice, is available on Blu-ray/DVD/Digital HD UltraViolet in the US today. An adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name, Inherent Vice is set in the tail end of the psychedelic ’60s and stars Oscar nominees Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, and Owen Wilson. Nonesuch Records released the soundtrack to Inherent Vice, which includes nine compositions by Jonny Greenwood, as well as "Spooks," an unreleased Radiohead tune performed with members of Supergrass, and recordings from the movie’s era. Performers include The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Neil Young, Can, and The Marketts.

Congratulations to Boyhood's Patricia Arquette, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards last night. The night before, Arquette had won the award for Best Supporting Actress at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and Richard Linklater won for Best Director. Paul Thomas Anderson's film Inherent Vice received the Independent Spirit Awards' Robert Altman Award, given to one film’s director, casting director, and ensemble cast. The soundtracks to both films are available now on Nonesuch Records. 

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the film Boyhood, which won three BAFTA Film Awards, presented by the British Academy at a ceremony in London tonight, broadcast live by the BBC: Best Film; Best Director for Richard Linklater; and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. The film won Golden Globe Awards in the same three categories and is nominated for six Academy Awards, including those three.

The song "Hero" by Family of the Year, featured on the soundtrack to Richard Linklater's film Boyhood—and heard throughout the telecast of the Golden Globes as the film picked up three awards last Sunday—can now be heard in a new music video as well. Not long after the film received six Academy Award nominations and shortly before it won four Critics Choice Awards, the video, which includes footage from the film, premiered on BuzzFeed, which describes the song as "anthemic." Congratulations to Boyhood, winner of four Critics Choice Movie Awards: Best Picture, Best Director for Richard Linklater, Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette, and Best Young Actor for Ellar Coltrane, who, as Mason, the titular boy, literally grows up on screen over the 12 years the film was shot. The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are bestowed annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) to honor the finest in cinematic achievement. The winners were announced last night, live from the Hollywood Palladium, in a show broadcast live on A&E.

Congratulations to Boyhood, which has been nominated for six Academy Awards: Best Picture; Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, Richard Linklater; Best Supporting Actor, Ethan Hawke; Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette; and Best Editing, Sandra Adair. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, stars of the Richard Linklater film Boyhood, were the guests on NPR's Fresh Air, talking with host Terry Gross about their roles in the groundbreaking film. "We were being offered a job no two actors had been offered before in the history of acting," says Hawke, "to get to create a character and use time as our clay, to shape somebody the way life shapes us."
