Journal Topics: NewsMonday,March 30,2020Newport Festivals Foundation has established the Newport Festivals Musician Relief Fund to provide financial relief to musicians in the folk and jazz communities experiencing a loss of income as a result of COVID-19, through rapid micro and full grants. The focus and priority of the fund is on artists who have played the Newport Jazz or Folk Festivals and those in the Rhode Island community; all other applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

We also recognize the emotional toll and significant financial hardships faced by so many, not least the community of recording and performing artists we know and love. Many musicians have lost a key source of revenue as live performances are canceled; here are some ways you can support them. Artists and arts institutions are finding new ways to bring people together to share live music even as we're kept apart; here are some ways they're doing that. Journal Topics: NewsFriday,February 14,2020Dutch conductor, pianist, and composer Reinbert de Leeuw died today, February 14, at the age of 81. De Leeuw was the conductor on all of the recordings Nonesuch Records has made of composer Louis Andriessen’s music; all but one of these were with Asko | Schönberg, the new-music ensemble of which he was a founder and the chief conductor. De Leeuw also led the ensemble in the Nonesuch recording of Steve Reich's Tehillim.
Journal Topics: NewsMonday,December 2,2019Composer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Parker releases a vinyl 7” single featuring parts one and two of his song “Max Brown” today, via a newly formed partnership between International Anthem and Nonesuch Records. A video for the track can be seen here. The song is a sneak peek of Parker’s new album, the first to be released via this partnership. International Anthem and Nonesuch will join forces to release at least six albums over the next three years.

The two labels, each committed to supporting the work of several generations of American composers, will combine resources to share newly-recorded music with a wider audience. The first three releases will be by composers Caroline Shaw, William Brittelle, and Daniel Wohl.
