    Björk, whose new album, Biophilia, was released this week, is the featured guest on PRI's Studio 360. Björk leads host Kurt Andersen through different tracks on the album and the App, which features a separate component for each track on the album. "For the last two decades, Björk has pushed every boundary she could find," says the show. Now, on Biophilia, "Björk’s odes to the mysteries of the universe can be as intoxicating as any love song."     Björk's new album, Biophilia, is out this week. She spoke with NPR's Morning Edition about the new album and its multimedia components, including the App suite also available this week. The AP says "Biophilia's music is vintage Björk." The Financial Times calls it "a triumph," giving it a perfect five stars, as does the Daily Telegraph. The Daily Mirror calls it "a thrilling record ... Even in Björk’s catalogue there’s nothing that’s been as spectacularly unconventional and wholly successful as Biophilia." PopMatters says "she’s breaking new ground few others know is out there to begin with."

    Jessica Lea Mayfield is among the artists featured on the new mix streaming from NPR Music and Folk Alley celebrating the recipients and nominees of the Americana Music Association's 10th Annual Honors and Awards. Mayfield has been nominated for the 2011 Americana Music Award for New/Emerging Artist of the Year. NPR Music will webcast live from the awards ceremony at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium next Thursday, and Austin City Limits will air an edited version of the show on PBS in November.

    Brad Mehldau will be today's guest on the Jamie Cullum show on BBC Radio 2. Mehldau stopped by the BBC Maida Vale Studios in London to perform songs both from Modern Music, his recently released collaboration with pianist Kevin Hays and composer Patrick Zimmerli, and Live in Marciac, his solo CD/DVD released earlier this year. Brad Mehldau will join label mate Joshua Redman for a US duo tour starting next week.

    Nonesuch Records wishes Steve Reich a very happy 75th birthday today and has added a new station to Nonesuch Radio featuring works from the composer's quarter-century of Nonesuch albums. Nonesuch has also teamed up with Reich's publisher, Boosey & Hawkes, for a prize package giveaway. NPR Music, noting that "such a birthday calls for major celebration," features a tribute to Reich from a number of NPR contributors and musicians who have worked with the composer. Q2 Music airs an updated presentation of its week-long festival Maximum Reich. The next two weeks bring all-Reich concerts from Kronos Quartet in Berkeley, Ensemble Modern in Paris, and the LSO in London.

    Chris Thile and Michael Daves are featured on the latest episode of the weekly radio show Acoustic Café. On the show, Thile and Daves talks with host Rob Reinhart about their album, Sleep with One Eye Open, and play songs from the album live in studio. Thile and his fellow Punch Brothers performed at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this past weekend; the band will support Paul Simon on tour this November.

    Pat Metheny's US tour with bassist Larry Grenadier continues this weekend with sold-out shows in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Ann Arbor. The Kansas City Star, reviewing last night's show, raves: "The idyllic concept of angels plucking on harps in heaven is overdue for an overhaul. One possible update is the image of Pat Metheny bent over a guitar ... Metheny creates extraordinarily celestial sounds, with last night's show "exceptionally rapturous even by his standards." Metheny discusses his new album, What's It All About, on today's episode of PRI's Here & Now.

    Ry Cooder appeared on the latest episode of BBC Radio 2's Mike Harding show to discuss his latest album, Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down, which Harding describes as "totally brilliant." BoingBoing places the album "in the tradition of the great titles of Woody Guthrie and Haywire Harry McClintlock ... As you'd expect from Cooder, the songs are musically tight and eminently singable and danceable."

    Ry Cooder spoke with BBC Radio 4's Today about his new album, Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down; the interview was broadcast in the US on PRI's The Takeaway. The Philadelphia Inquirer gives the album a perfect four stars, likening it to "the scrappy populism of Woody Guthrie ... set to an incredibly rich melting pot of folk, blues, country, rock, and norteno." The Chicago Sun-Times too calls him "a modern-day Woody Guthrie." Canada's North Shore News says: "Brilliant stuff."

    Philip Selway will be the guest on WNYC's Soundcheck Friday afternoon. Selway will perform songs from his new digital EP, Running Blind, and his 2010 solo debut album, Familial. Tune in Friday at 2 PM ET on 93.9 FM in New York and at online at wnyc.org. While in NYC, Selway will work in a few gigs with his band, Radiohead, as musical guests on the season opener of Saturday Night Live, featured on The Colbert Report, and performing two shows at Roseland Ballroom.

    Kronos Quartet gives the NY premiere of Awakening: A Musical Meditation on the Anniversary of 9/11 for the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)'s 2011 Next Wave Festival, with four consecutive nights of performances starting tonight. Congratulations to Kronos fan Ross Burlingame, winner of the Nonesuch ticket giveaway to tonight's show. Kronos Quartet gave a preview of the show when they performed live on WNYC's Soundcheck earlier this week. Listen to the performances and interview here.

    Steve Reich's new album, WTC 9/11, is out this week. The album includes the title piece, Reich's reflection on the 2001 World Trade Center attacks, performed by Kronos Quartet, as well as Mallet Quartet, performed by Sō Percussion, and Dance Patterns, featuring members of Steve Reich and Musicians. BBC Radio 3's CD Review finds the title piece "startling, emotionally charged and moving." BBC Music says "Reich is as eloquent as ever." The Independent gives the album four stars.
