NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross aired an encore broadcast of Rachael & Vilray's 2020 interview on the show today to mark the release of the duo's new album, I Love a Love Song!. For her second performance, Anderson incorporated a recording of her late husband Lou Reed, the ninth anniversary of whose death coincided with the event. The illustrated book, out now on Candlewick Press, was inspired by, and features the lyrics of, a song she wrote and recorded with Yo-Yo Ma to commemorate Juneteenth in 2020. Both the book and song tell the story of an enslaved family that will not be moved, and the music that sustains them. You can hear what Giddens told NPR’s Ailsa Chang about it here.
