Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express—while in New York City to perform music from their album Junun with Jonny Greenwood on tour opening for Radiohead—stopped by the WNYC studios as guests on New Sounds' Soundcheck. Ben Tzur spoke with host John Schaefer about the album and joined the band to perform songs from it. You can watch the complete set here.

She took filmmaker Gavin Elder to the rustic cottage in the hills of the North Yorkshire Moors where she wrote the songs on the album to discuss writing there and later recording the album in NYC with producer Thomas Bartlett. Take a look in the video here. Chaney will return to North America for a three-week tour, starting in Georgia, on July 24.

The inaugural workshops, titled "The Astonishing Adventures of a Celestial Archaeologist." included a short film animated by Matteo Toffalori and set to the song "Celebration," from his album Ape in Pink Marble. The album comprises his ten-song musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US he embarked upon the day after the 2016 Presidential election. He left behind his cell phone and other internet-connected devices, spending two weeks with dozens of strangers whose stories are woven into the cycle. They have now shared a video from that performance of the non-album track "Walls-Bridges"; you can watch it here. The band will tour North America this year with shows in Cleveland, Minneapolis, Iowa City, Newport, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and more to come. Another group of which Redman is a part, James Farm, will tour Europe in October.
Friday,June 15,2018Olivia Chaney's new album, Shelter, is out now on Nonesuch. Produced by Thomas Bartlett, the album is eight original songs plus Chaney's takes on songs by Purcell and the Everly Brothers. She has also released a video for the track "House on a Hill," filmed at the rustic, 18th-century cottage in the hills of the North Yorkshire Moors where she wrote the record. Watch it here. The Observer cites Chaney's "dazzling vocals" and calls Shelter "an elegant, luminous album." Uncut calls it "transcendent refuge from the storm." The Daily Mirror says it's "a triumph." Chaney performs in London on June 19; tickets are on sale now for her North American summer tour.
