Devendra Banhart and his band toured South America in 2014 with music from his Nonesuch Records debut album, Mala. Artist and filmmaker Adam Tullie was there to capture the trip and has created a short film, set to a selection of Banhart's home demos and one of his poems. "The overall landscape is beyond beautiful, strewn with lush color and tropical flora," says Tullie, with whom Banhart is releasing an art book. "The people reflect this; lively, bright, and full of love." Watch it here.

The Bad Plus Joshua Redman, whose self-titled debut album is due out next week in North America and June 8 elsewhere, performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival in 2014, when Redman was Artist in Residence there. NPR's Jazz Night in America was there to capture the new quartet, fresh out of the studio. Watch the performance and an interview with the band here. The new album is streaming in full till May 25 as an NPR First Listen. The quartet kicks off a tour at the Blue Note Jazz Festival on June 10.

As David Letterman prepares his final episode as host of the Late Show tonight, the Nonesuch Journal takes a look back at some of the many memorable performances Nonesuch artists are fortunate to have played on his stage in the Ed Sullivan Theatre (and in one case, the fire escape outside it) over the years, from The Black Keys, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, Punch Brothers, Wilco, Rhiannon Giddens, Conor Oberst, Lianne La Havas, Laurie Anderson, Randy Newman, and others. Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell visited Rolling Stone to perform two songs from their new album, The Traveling Kind: the title track and "The Weight of the World." Watch both here. "If only Hollywood sequels were this good," exclaims Mother Jones of their follow-up to Old Yellow Moon. "Harris' still-beautiful voice has acquired a darker, slightly rougher texture that adds authority, while the weathered grace of Crowell's singing makes him a perfect match. A fine job by all concerned, including the stellar players." Vanity Fair calls it "a beautiful collection of duets" from "one of the most storied collaborations in country music."

Prior to the release of Mehliana: Taming the Dragon, the debut album from Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana's electric duo, they had been performing together for some time, including a show at Largo in LA in October of 2013, several songs from which were filmed live. The videos, directed and recorded by Alex Chaloff, released thus far include live takes on album tracks "Sleeping Giant," "Just Call Me Nige," and "Hungry Ghost." A fourth and final video, of the song "Centinela," which is not on the album, can now be seen here. Mehliana performs at the Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on May 24, the pair's only scheduled date for the rest of the year. 

The Black Keys are the subject of the latest film in the Rolling Stone Films series Mastering the Craft, titled "The Big Come Up." In the film, band mates Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney recount their early days, discussing how they first came together to make music in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, and later went on to form the band after a random recording session. The film includes interviews with the band and their families along with their earliest demo recordings and footage from their very first concert and more. Watch it here.

Lianne La Havas has unveiled a music video for the song "Unstoppable," the first track off her forthcoming album, Blood, which is due out later this year. The video was shot in London and directed by Olivier Groulx. You can watch the video here and download the track now when you pre-order the album, which Pigeons and Planes includes among the Most Anticipated Albums of 2015. "In the modern world of artificial pop and electronically charged hits, Lianne La Havas brings life," says the site. "[H]er more recent work has her sounding more confident, focused, and better than ever."

Punch Brothers, who return to the road next month starting at the Bonnaroo and Telluride Bluegrass festivals, have kicked off the sixth season of the A.V. Club's A.V. Undercover series. "First up, it’s the thoroughly awesome Punch Brothers, who covered The Cars for us way back in 2012," says the A.V. Club. "[Y]ou can never hear a banjo- and mandolin-assisted cover of The Strokes' 'Reptilia' too many times." Watch them perform it as many times as you'd like in the video here.

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, whose new duets album, The Traveling Kind, is due out May 12, stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman as musical guests on the show last night. They sang a special rendition of the gospel tune "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" in tribute to Letterman, whose final episode as host will air later this month, joined by Steve Martin on banjo, Amos Lee on guitar and vocals, and Mark O'Connor on fiddle. Joshua Redman traveled to Myanmar with the International Rescue Committee in February to visit IRC-run maternal health and community engagement programs. He spoke with villagers who were building roads and water systems based on community consensus gained through an election organized by the IRC—giving some villagers the chance to vote for the very first time. Redman became an IRC Voice in 2013 and says of his trip, "I have played music all over the world, but I have never before experienced something like this." Watch a video from the visit here.

Punch Brothers, as part of the North American tour celebrating the release of their new album, The Phosphorescent Blues, performed for a sold-out crowd at Boston's House of Blues in March. The WGBH program Front Row Boston was there to capture the event. You can now watch the band perform several tracks from the new album and earlier favorites, interspersed with backstage interviews with the band, in the 90-minute video here. Up next on the tour: Bonnaroo and Telluride Bluegrass festivals in June.

Rhiannon Giddens was the musical guest on CBS This Morning: Saturday, performing two songs from her recently released debut solo album, Tomorrow Is My Turn—"Black Is the Color" and "She's Got You"—as well as "Spanish Mary," from the New Basement Tapes album Lost on the River. You can watch all three performances here. "With a voice so powerful it could scorch the rafters, Rhiannon Giddens has the pipes of a genuine diva. But her attitude is humble and her personality is down to earth," writes the Chicago Tribune of a recent tour stop. "With equal helpings of confidence and respect, she nimbly saluted her idols while giving their iconic work a fresh spin."
