Lake Street Dive is on the latest episode of eTown. All five band members talk with host Nick Forster, who calls Lake Street Dive "one of our favorite bands," about their new album, Obviously, and share some songs off the record. Congratulations to Lake Street Dive, whose new album, Obviously, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Album Chart, No. 1 on the Americana/Folk Chart, and No. 2 on both the Current Rock Albums and Current Alternative Albums charts. Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, an album of songs written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion, is due June 25 on Nonesuch Records. With Shaw on vocals and Sō filling out this new band, they developed songs in the studio, with lyrics inspired by their own wide-ranging interests: James Joyce, the Sacred Harp hymnal, a poem by Anne Carson, the Bible’s Book of Ruth, the American roots tune “I’ll Fly Away,” the pop music of ABBA, and more. k.d. lang’s makeover, a new collection of classic dance remixes of some of her best-loved songs, is due May 28 on Nonesuch Records, including on translucent turquoise vinyl. The album brings these remixes, made between 1992 and 2000, together for the first time, and includes “Sexuality,” “Miss Chatelaine,” “Theme from The Valley of the Dolls,” “Summerfling,” and the #1 dance chart hits “Lifted By Love” and “If I Were You.” makeover’s cover art features a previously unseen 1995 portrait of lang by David LaChapelle. Laurie Anderson and Timo Andres spoke with Nonesuch Chairman Emeritus Bob Hurwitz for Ojai Music Festival's Virtual Ojai Talks, which you can watch here. The conversation centers on I Still Play, the 2020 album of new solo piano works by artists who have recorded for Nonesuch, written in honor of Hurwitz: Anderson, Andres, John Adams, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman. Andres will perform from I Still Play at the 2021 Ojai Music Festival, of which John Adams is Music Director.

Lake Street Dive were on WNYC's Soundcheck to talk with host John Schaefer about their new album, Obviously, and perform three songs from it: "Same Old News," "Being a Woman," and "Hypotheticals." The band performed three songs from the new album: "Hypotheticals," "Nobody's Stopping You Now," and "Being a Woman." You can watch all three here.

Lake Street Dive's new album, Obviously, is out now on Nonesuch Records. In celebration of the new record, the group performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, which you can watch here, and will perform on CBS This Morning: Saturday Sessions tomorrow. Obviously was produced by Grammy Award winner Mike Elizondo, a songwriting collaborator for Dr. Dre, Eminem, and 50 Cent and record producer for Fiona Apple and Mary J. Blige, among others. "You need to make this band part of your life," exclaims the AP. "Lake Street Dive have never sounded better, full and clear with every instrument given a chance to shine in every song."

David Byrne and Laurie Anderson will be part of NYC's Park Avenue Armory's new season of new commissions created by artists during and in response to the pandemic, presented in a socially distanced space with masks worn. The season is due to open March 24 with Bill T. Jones's Afterwardsness, followed at dates TBA by SOCIAL! the social distance dance club, an interactive experience conceived by Byrne, choreographer Steven Hoggett, and set designer Christine Jones, in which the audience is invited to dance in their own socially distanced spotlights to a curated playlist, with instructional voiceover by Byrne; and Party in the Bardo, in which Anderson and jazz pianist/composer Jason Moran perform, underpinned by drones from Lou Reed's guitars.

Aria Code, the Rhiannon Giddens–hosted podcast from The Metropolitan Opera and WQXR, returns for its third season today. The new season opens with "Nessun dorma," from Puccini's opera Turandot. Giddens hears from conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, writer Anne Midgette, and Dr. Michael Cho, a pulmonary and critical care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, who has been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and is a violist with the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and the National Virtual Medical Orchestra.
