    Chris Thile and Brad Mehldau begin a duo tour of Europe in Ludwigshafen, Germany, tonight, followed by stops in Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, France, Spain, and Ireland, where the tour comes to a close at Dublin's National Concert Hall on November 9. "Strictly speaking, mandolinist Chris Thile is a bluegrass musician and pianist Brad Mehldau is a jazz musician," says the Boston Globe. "But genre categories disappeared when the two met [in concert]."

    The Black Keys will perform at The Concert for Valor to honor America’s veterans and their families this Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11. The concert will take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, and will be broadcast live on HBO, which will offer its affiliates the opportunity to open the signal, allowing nonsubscribers to view the special.

    Richard Linklater's film Boyhood has been nominated for four Gotham Independent Film Awards, leading this year's field with the most nominations: Best Feature, Best Actress for Patricia Arquette, Best Actor for Ethan Hawke, and Breakthrough Actor for Ellar Coltrane. The Gotham Awards will be presented in a ceremony on December 1. Nonesuch released the film's soundtrack this past summer.

    Composer John Adams's 1991 opera The Death of Klinghoffer received its Metropolitan Opera premiere last night, the first of eight Met performances during the 2014–15 season. The opera, with a libretto by Alice Goodman, was originally directed by frequent Adams collaborator Peter Sellars. It addresses the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro ocean liner and the murder of a Jewish-American passenger, Leon Klinghoffer, by Palestinian terrorists. Nonesuch Records released the first recording of The Death of Klinghoffer, with the Orchestra of the Opéra de Lyon, in 1992.     John Adams's 1991 opera The Death of Klinghoffer receives its Metropolitan Opera premiere tonight, the first of eight performances during the Met's 2014–15 season. This is the third Adams work to be staged at the Met, following Doctor Atomic and Nixon in China. The production is directed by Tom Morris, with David Robertson conducting and baritone Paulo Szot starring in the leading role.

He is joined by guitarist Bill Frisell, who is featured on Amidon's new album, Lily-O, to perform four songs from the album: "Walkin' Boss," "Blue Mountains," "Your Lone Journey," and a web-exclusive take on "Groundhog Variations." The two also talk with World Cafe host David Dye about recording of the new album in Iceland and more.     Devendra Banhart and longtime friend, musical collaborator, and fellow singer-songwriter Andy Cabic (Vetiver) kick off a tour of California at the Berkeley Art Museum Friday, performing both individually and together in a casual mix of older and newer material. The tour continues with stops in Sonoma, Grass Valley, Chico, Felton, and Big Sur. Banhart is featured on the new collection Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell to benefit the Red Hot Organization's fight against AIDS.

    Nonesuch Records will release two new Wilco collections on November 17 in conjunction with the band’s 20th anniversary: Alpha Mike Foxtrot, a 4-CD/4-LP box set of rare studio and live recordings collected from the band’s extensive audio archives, and What’s Your 20?, a 2-CD compilation of essential tracks culled from the band’s previously released studio recordings. Both collections are available to pre-order now. Wilco appears on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on October 27 and will play six shows at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre in December, adding to the string of anniversary concerts.

    Conor Oberst stopped by KEXP 90.3 in Seattle on his recent US tour. He was joined by Jonathan Wilson, who co-produced his new album, Upside Down Mountain, and his band to perform four songs off the album and a Bright Eyes tune and to talk with host Cheryl Waters. "We love everything he does," says KEXP. You can watch the session here. Oberst will perform at two holiday-season benefit shows in December: Holiday Cheer for FUV in NYC and the KCSN Benefit in Northridge, CA.

    David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical Here Lies Love has its official Opening Night at the National Theatre's Dorfman Theatre in London tonight. The reviews are in from last night's press night, bringing five stars in Time Out and the Daily Mail, which calls it "revolutionary," and four stars in the Independent, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, and the Times. Channel 4 News calls it "extraordinary" and spoke with Byrne in an interview you can watch here.
