The Arcs—Dan Auerbach, Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon—have confirmed eight European tour dates in November 2015 as part of their first tour in support of Yours, Dreamily, their debut album. They will be joined on stage by Mariachi Flor de Toloache. The European leg comprises concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Holland, France, and Italy. See below for details or visit nonesuch.com/on-tour. Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 11.
The Arcs released their acclaimed debut album, Yours, Dreamily, on September 4 on Nonesuch Records. They collaboratively wrote and recorded 13 tracks, with the musicians playing a large array of roles both vocally and instrumentally. Also featured are Kenny Vaughan and Mariachi Flor de Toloache. Co-produced by Auerbach and Michels, the album was recorded in roughly two weeks through spontaneous, informal sessions across the country at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles, the Diamond Mine in Queens, Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, and in a lounge room at Electric Lady in Manhattan. Tchad Blake mixed the album on his horse farm in Wales.
"An intriguing alliance," wrote the Independent. "A line-up able to deal with whatever twists and turns the music throws up—which in The Arcs’s case blends Auerbach’s falsetto soul tone with a dreamily textured psychedelia streaked and stratified with myriad guitar lines. The result is a melange of mystic imagery and music poised on the cusp of firm melodic and rhythmic structure and a looser, more exploratory approach."
Yours, Dreamily, includes the singles "Outta My Mind," "Stay in My Corner," and "Put a Flower in Your Pocket." The Arcs will make their live concert debut performing as part of NPR Music’s First Listen Live series at New York’s Housing Works Bookstore Café this Wednesday, September 9, and will perform at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on September 26. Additional tour dates will be announced shortly. For all the latest, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
Following earlier four-star reviews from Rolling Stone, Mojo, Q, and the Independent, among others, Yours, Dreamily, earns additional four-star reviews from the Guardian, Times, and Daily Mirror, which names it Album of the Week and finds "a bevy of brilliant new twists on Auerbach’s supernova soul rock."
"Yours, Dreamily, moves away from bluesy rock ’n’ roll," says the Guardian's Lanre Bakare in that four-star review. "In fact, soul is the genre the album most often calls to mind. In come slower reflective moments, and tracks that could have come from the mind of Dee Dee Warwick or the Stax records vault. Auerbach becomes a perpetually lovelorn protagonist mixing his misfortune with classic American soul sounds and hints of Mariachi rancheros and 90s trip-hop. This album proves Auerbach is at ease outside his comfort zone."
To pick up a copy of the album, head to iTunes or the Nonesuch Store, where orders include a download of the complete album at checkout.
