Gabriel Kahane, now touring Europe with music from his album Book of Travelers, has released two new tracks digitally. "I wrote 'Little Love' as a looping study on guitar and always wanted to release a version that reflected the original concept," he says of the new “ruined lace edition” of that Book of Travelers track. "'Trophy Longhorns' appears as a solo piano tune in the staged version of Book of Travelers," he says of the other new track; "it didn't fit emotionally or aesthetically with the rest of the album, but I thought it should see the light of day."

Gabriel Kahane, who is currently touring Europe with music from his Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers, has released two new tracks digitally: "Little Love (ruined lace edition)" and "Trophy Longhorns." The tracks are available to download now on iTunes, Bandcamp, and the Nonesuch Store, and can be heard on Spotify and Apple Music.

"I wrote 'Little Love' as a looping study on guitar and always wanted to release a version that reflected the original concept," Kahane says of the newly released “ruined lace edition” of a song that appears on the Book of Travelers album. "'Trophy Longhorns' appears as a solo piano tune in the staged version of Book of Travelers,” he says of the other newly released track; "it didn't fit emotionally or aesthetically with the rest of the album, but I thought it should see the light of day."

Kahane can also be heard singing on the just-released Brad Mehldau track "The Garden," from Mehldau's forthcoming album, Finding Gabriel; you can hear it here.

To pick up a copy of Book of Travelers, head to your local independent record store, Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, and the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout, or listen on Apple Music and Spotify

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
