Iron and Wine, whose Nonesuch debut album, Ghost on Ghost, was released this past spring to critical acclaim, kicks off the second leg of its North American fall tour with a show at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles this Thursday, Halloween night. Singer-songwriter Sam Beam and his 12-piece band perform up the West Coast, making stops in Oakland, Portland, Vancouver, and Seattle, with opening sets along the way from Laura Mvula. Iron and Wine then heads inland for shows in Missoula, Salt Lake City, Denver, Lincoln, and Kansas City, before landing in Nashville and Atlanta in mid-November, with support on those dates from Jesca Hoop.

The following month, Iron and Wine comes to New York City to headline the ninth annual Holiday Cheer for FUV concert benefitting New York public radio station 90.7 FM WFUV. The evening, taking place at the Beacon Theatre on December 10, also features Tucson-based Calexico as house band and songwriter/performer Nick Lowe, among other artists to be announced.

"Iron & Wine's Sam Beam sets a really high bar artistically," says FUV Program Director Rita Houston.

American Railroad, the new album from the Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, is out now. It is the culmination of four years of research, collaboration, and music-making, having brought Silkroad artists all across the US to uncover and uplift stories of those who built the transcontinental railroad and connecting railways across North America. "The result is a tapestry of stories, traditions, and music that have shaped our multifaceted cultural identity, and that must be heard and recognized," Giddens says. Also out now are a performance video of the track "Mahk Jchi" and the first episode of the American Railroad podcast series. The US fall tour continues to November 23.
