k.d. lang has returned to Canada for several dates on her Watershed tour, including tonight's performance at Centennial Hall in London, Ontario. Across the Atlantic, in the elder London, k.d. was the subject of a feature profile in the Mail on Sunday this past weekend. She talks at length with the Mail's Liz Jones about life, love, religion, and her career. Jones prefaces the discussion by admitting: "I love the new album, Watershed, which is turning out to be her best performing album in the UK in a decade and, in fact, one of the best performers of her 25-year career."

"There is a paucity of quality female vocalists in the music charts today," writes the New Zealand Herald in a review of k.d. lang's performance last night at Auckland's Aotea Centre. While there is certainly no lack of pop starlets, says the review, for quality, "one woman stands alone." That would be k.d., who "enraptured the audience with her remarkable vocal range." Her live performance of tunes from Watershed was "pitch-perfect and soulful."

After spending a number of weeks traveling across Australia with her Watershed tour, k.d. lang and her band have made their way across the Tasman Sea for a performance in Wellington, New Zealand, tonight at the Michael Fowler Centre, and a stop in Auckland tomorrow night. NPR's World Cafe has broadcast an interview with and performance from k.d. "Offered up with confidence and honesty," says NPR, "k.d. lang's deeply personal narratives invite listeners into an intimate world. Her glorious voice fuses country, jazz, and even Brazilian rhythms, and on her latest CD, Watershed, she finds a certain earthy elegance."

"You can quickly run out of adjectives to describe k.d. lang," writes the Adelaide Advertiser, "powerful, soulful, sensual, lush, velvet, joyous---and that's just her voice." In a four-star review of k.d.'s show in Adelaide last Saturday, the Advertiser says, "Quite frankly, Ms. lang could sing the classifieds section and it would sound beautiful." The Brisbane Courier Mail calls Watershed "her best album of original material in years" and found k.d. "in sensational form" at her recent concert there.

k.d. lang continues her Australian Watershed tour with three shows in Melbourne this week. Following a recent set in Perth, Perth Now said that despite the autumn chill, there was a warm reception all around at this "magnificent" set. "Long live the queen," the paper declared, saying k.d. "is charm personified ... When she soared through the chorus of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' it was like you were hearing the song for the very first time."

"Delightful, and close to flawless." That's how the Sydney Morning Herald describes k.d. lang's performance Wednesday at Sydney's State Theatre. The Australian concurs, writing: "In concert, k.d. lang comes so close to perfection that it's hard not to dissolve into gushing cliches." This week, as k.d.'s new album, Watershed, reached No. 1 in Australia, she and her band have been touring the country.

k.d. lang's "Shadow and the Frame," off her recent Nonesuch release Watershed, joins an eclectic mix of song selects on USA Today's Playlist this week, which also includes the likes of the Rolling Stones and Ray Davies. USA Today says k.d. sings "elegantly, painfully" on the track, with its "spare and exquisite string arrangement." You can hear the song on a video clip that is the first of six webisodes launched in January, available here.
