As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, we launched Nonesuch Selects, a video series in which artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorites from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Kronos Quartet founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington stopped by and chose recordings by Carlos Paredes, Dumisani Abraham Maraire, Astor Piazzolla, and Steve Reich. You can watch it below and subscribe to the Nonesuch Records YouTube channel for all the latest:
Kronos Quartet's 50th anniversary concert season culminated with the group's ninth annual hometown Kronos Festival at SFJAZZ in San Francisco last month, when several of the group's classic Nonesuch Records titles were remastered in Spatial Audio on Apple Music Classical. That includes Pieces of Africa, which was inducted into National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress this past April. The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos and has appointed Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture.
You can hear a playlist of music from David Harrington's Nonesuch Selects on Spotify and Apple Music here. You can watch all of the Nonesuch Selects videos here.
