Kronos Quartet founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington stopped by for the Nonesuch Selects video series, in which artists visit the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorite albums from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. He chose recordings by Carlos Paredes, Dumisani Abraham Maraire, Astor Piazzolla, and Steve Reich.

As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, we launched Nonesuch Selects, a video series in which artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorites from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Kronos Quartet founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington stopped by and chose recordings by Carlos Paredes, Dumisani Abraham Maraire, Astor Piazzolla, and Steve Reich. Kronos Quartet's 50th anniversary concert season culminated with the group's ninth annual hometown Kronos Festival at SFJAZZ in San Francisco last month, when several of the group's classic Nonesuch Records titles were remastered in Spatial Audio on Apple Music Classical. That includes Pieces of Africa, which was inducted into National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress this past April. The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos and has appointed Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture.

    Jeremy Denk's album Ives Denk, due October 18, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Ives' birth, features the composer's four violin sonatas, performed with violinist Stefan Jackiw, as well as remastered versions of his Sonatas No. 1 and 2 for piano, from Denk's 2010 debut recording, Jeremy Denk Plays Ives. Here, Wilson shares stories from the photo sessions behind the images in the box, with Allen Toussaint, Ambrose Akinmusire, Audra McDonald, Bill Frisell, The Black Keys, Brad Mehldau, David Byrne, Dr. John, Emmylou Harris, Frederic Rzewski, Jeremy Denk, Kronos Quartet, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Manuel Galbán and Ry Cooder, Philip Glass, Randy Newman, Rhiannon Giddens, Stephin Merritt and Lemony Snicket, Steve Reich, and Timo Andres.
