Still Dreaming, the new album from saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman, drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and trumpeter Ron Miles, out next Friday, May 25, is streaming in full till then as an NPR First Listen. The album was inspired by the band Old and New Dreams, of which Joshua Redman's father Dewey was a member and which had an all-star lineup of Ornette Coleman collaborators. "The rhythmic undertow in this band feels true to its inspiration, as does the airtight-yet-relaxed rapport between Redman and Miles," says NPR's Nate Chinen.

Still Dreaming, the new album from saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman, drummer Brian Blade, bassist Scott Colley, and trumpeter Ron Miles, is out next Friday, May 25, on Nonesuch Records. But you don't need to wait till then to hear it: the album is streaming in full till then as an NPR First Listen at npr.org/firstlisten.

The new album was inspired by the band Old and New Dreams, of which Joshua Redman's father Dewey Redman was a member and which had an all-star lineup of Ornette Coleman collaborators: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell. Still Dreaming features six new compositions by the new band plus one tune by Haden, one by Coleman.

"The rhythmic undertow in this band feels true to its inspiration, as does the airtight-yet-relaxed rapport between Redman and Miles," says NPR's Nate Chinen, who later calls attention to the track "Haze and Aspirations" to conclude that "the tenor solo is a marvel of emotional resonance and thematic coherence—a world of expression, compressed into a minute's time."

Read more of Chinen's review and listen to the album now at npr.org.

Still Dreaming is available to pre-order on iTunes and the Nonesuch Store with an instant download of the track "Unanimity." Nonesuch Store pre-orders also include a download of the complete album available starting release day.
