The film adaptation of The Hunger Games, the best-selling young-adult novel by Suzanne Collins, is set to open in movie theaters across the globe this week. The opening of the film, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, also brings with it the release of a companion album titled The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond, available today from Universal Republic. The album, produced by T Bone Burnett, features songs inspired by the film by a number of artists, including Arcade Fire, Neko Case, Taylor Swift, The Decemberists, and three Nonesuch artists: Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers, and The Low Anthem. Carolina Chocolate Drops contribute the song "The Daughter's Lament," Punch Brothers' perform "Dark Days," and The Low Anthem offer "Lover Is Childlike."

"It was never going to be easy, living up to the expectations of the devoted fans of The Hunger Games," says The Huffington Post. "But Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett has managed to create a deftly meditative soundtrack to the movie adaption of the best-selling book, bringing together big names and indie darlings of all stripes on this guitar- and banjo-heavy release."

Interestingly, all three Nonesuch artists can also be heard on The Chieftains 50th anniversary album, Voices of Ages, which Burnett produced as well. Punch Brothers (with Dierks Bentley) and Carolina Chocolate Drops are also featured on Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan, the new benefit album from Amnesty International celebrating that organization's 50th anniversary.

The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond is available now on Amazon, the Amazon MP3 Store, and iTunes.

Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s album honey from a winter stone, which he calls a “self-portrait,” is out now. It features improvisational vocalist Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, Chiquitamagic on synthesizer, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos Quartet. “For arguably the most technically gifted trumpeter of his generation, a lot of Ambrose Akinmusire’s breakthroughs actually come from letting go of standards and structures," says the New York Times. "Lately Akinmusire has been making some of the most intimate, spellbinding music of his career.”

David Longstreth’s Song of the Earth, a song cycle for orchestra and voices, is due April 4. Performed by Longstreth with his band Dirty Projectors—Felicia Douglass, Maia Friedman, Olga Bell—and the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e, conducted by André de Ridder, the album also features Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Longstreth says that while Song of the Earth—his biggest-yet foray into the field of concert music—"is not a ‘climate change opera,’” he wanted to “find something beyond sadness: beauty spiked with damage. Acknowledgement flecked with hope, irony, humor, rage.”
