As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, we launched Nonesuch Selects, a video series in which artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorites from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Caroline Shaw—whose new album with Sō Percussion, Rectangles and Circumstance, is due June 14—stopped by and chose recordings by Rhiannon Giddens, Dawn Upshaw, Gabriel Kahane, Mountain Man, Steve Reich, and Chris Thile. You can watch it below and subscribe to the Nonesuch Records YouTube channel for all the latest:

Rectangles and Circumstance comprises ten songs co-written and performed by Caroline Shaw and Sō Percussion. Shaw and Sō's Eric Cha-Beach and Adam Sliwinski "sourced a group of nineteenth-century poems that shaped its expressive mode [and] ended up using verses by Christina Rosetti, Emily Brontë, Emily Dickinson, Gertrude Stein, and William Blake," says Sliwinski. "The lyrics on this album by members of the band contain wordplay that explores the same profound feelings explored by Blake and Dickinson.” Shaw and Sō co-produced the album with Grammy-winning engineer Jonathan Low (The National, Taylor Swift). You can pre-order the album and hear three tracks from it here.

You can hear a playlist of music from Caroline Shaw's Nonesuch Selects on Spotify and Apple Music here. You can watch all of the Nonesuch Selects videos here.
