Rhiannon Giddens was a guest on Amanpour & Co. on PBS Friday night. "The award-winning musical polymath Rhiannon Giddens," says host Christiane Amanpour is "on a mission to re-frame the history of African Americans and their contributions to the musical landscape, a quest that's already won her MacArthur 'Genius' grant." Historian Walter Isaacson talks with Giddens for the show about that history and how it influenced her "amazing" new album, there is no Other, with multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi. She also gives a bit of a demonstration on her banjo. You can watch the interview below.
Giddens also hosts this week's episode of the Music Life podcast from BBC World Service, in which musicians from around the world discuss how and why they do what they do. She lead's this week's conversation with Josh Turner, Justin Osborne, and CAM, which you can hear at bbc.co.uk.
Following a special event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles last night, Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi take their tour to The Kent Stage in Ohio on Wednesday, followed by a run of sold-out shows in Toronto and throughout the US Midwest.
