Singer, musician, and composer Sam Amidon embarks on a US tour in support of his latest Nonesuch Records release, The Following Mountain, starting at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center in Seattle on Saturday. Amidon, who presently resides in London, is returning to the States for his first extensive tour since 2014 and will perform concerts in Portland (Oregon), San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boulder, Chicago, Washington, DC, New York City, Portland (Maine), and more. He will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Chris Vatalaro and performing as a trio with a variety of accompanying musicians throughout. See below for a complete list of tour dates, including the European tour to follow, or visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.
Ahead of the tour, Amidon has again teamed with acclaimed video director John Hardwick (Noel Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys, Blur) for a new video for the song "Warren" from The Following Mountain. In it, a singing and occasionally dancing Amidon wanders his way through a wooded sunlit path—a setting that fans of Amidon’s and Hardwick’s previous collaboration, the 2013 video for "As I Roved Out," will find familiar. You can watch the video here:
The Following Mountain represents a new approach for Amidon, who shifts here from his previous norm of re-working traditional folk songs and presents nine wholly-original compositions, with some lyrics drawing on traditional sources. Created with producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Regina Spektor) and Amidon’s frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, the album features guest appearances by drummer Milford Graves, percussionist Juma Sultan, and saxophonist Sam Gendel.
"Amidon and producer Leo Abrahams reverse engineered songs from individual moments of the master jam, and drew out a unifying, gently driving rhythm across the album," says Pitchfork. "The resultant music rolls and shimmers, with hard little fillips of guitar glinting in waves of woodwinds and violins, organs and electric basses."
To pick up a copy of The Following Mountain, head to iTunes and the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout, and listen to the album on Apple Music and Spotify.

The Way Out of Easy, the first album from guitarist Jeff Parker and his long-running ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—since their 2022 debut Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, which Pitchfork named one of the Best Albums of the 2020s So Far, is out now on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. Like that album, The Way Out of Easy comprises recordings from LA venue ETA, where Parker and the ensemble held a weekly residency for seven years. During that time, the ETA IVtet evolved from a band that played mostly standards into a group known for its transcendent, long-form journeys into innovative, groove-oriented improvised music. All four tracks on The Way Out of Easy come from a single night in 2023, providing an unfiltered view of the ensemble, fully in their element.
The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."
